    E-Mag noob questions

    Hi dudes,

I recently decided that I absolutely MUST have an E-Mag.

I plan to get a set of lowers and bolt them up to an mm2k9 body. Aside from the body, the lowers, a valve, and a bolt, what else would I need to buy to be in a decent "starting place" ?

Next question - I see randomly here and there that there are tons of mods available, well there have been tons of mods available at various times, for the E-Mag. Can someone just give me a rundown of what is useful, what the options are, what to look for? I heard that Luke mills the frame to make it lighter, that's obviously relevant to my interests. I heard about flashing the firmware (where can I do this?) and have read once upon a time that there are options for using different batteries or something along those lines. Please someone school me up. I'm in Afghanistan and our internet connectivity sucks or I'd try and research it more myself

The emag lowers are a bolt-on upgrade. You need to check to see if the standard 0.712" emag on-off pin works with that body. The older Micro bodies required a shorter 0.685" on-off pin to work properly.

The best firmware upgrade is Xmod 1.8 which gives most required modes of operation including adjustable ramping. I believe Tunaman is an authorized Xmod flasher.

The frame can be ULE milled to reduce weight.

You can make a new higher mAh battery pack for longer life. There are other options for making smaller packs if you want to go with a lithium battery pack. You will need to get a new pack made to fit the holder.

A new trigger is a nice upgrade. There are lots of new designs on the market.
Except for the Automag in front, its usually the man behind the equipment that counts.

I read that there are some new boards being developed now in the Dealer's Forum section here. How would that compare to Xmod 1.8? Which way is the better way to go?

This is done by Luke, right?

Is there a howto anywhere? What's the lightest method, that still has plenty of battery life?

Do you have a place I can go buy a trigger handy? I have seen some with carbon fiber triggers...those look pretty slick I'd like to find one of those if possible.

      Thanks for the help!

It sounds like the new boards will be nice. Until they are here we won't know for sure how good they are. They will be more expensive because you need to buy a new board. A firmware upgrade is the least expensive, because it just costs for the licence to put it on your gun.

        Luke does ULE milling.

All the battery packs are just a series of connected battery cells to add up to the proper voltage. As long as the packs can deliver the required mAh current for the solenoid, they are good to go. The emag requires approximately 3A of impulse power. 650mAh of capacity when new gives about 20000 shots per charge at about 30ms of dwell activation. The Xmod allows you to reduce the dwell to a more efficient 15ms which will increase the life of the pack. Most new cells have 1000mAh of capacity compared to the old 650mAh packs. If you find capable lithium cells and have a reputable person put a pack together for you, I suspect you can make it quite small given that the smaller lithium cells can deliver higher current. They are different size than the existing NiMh cells, so you would probably need to make a new battery pack.

I have used both blades and curved triggers. I had a fire-blade and tuna-blade. I liked the tuna-blade better, but that's me. I don't know who makes or sells what triggers now. You'll have to do a search or ask some of the aftermarket builders in the dealer section.
