main body insides ?

For someone wanting to have a ule body anodized or maybe try and build their own custom aluminum main body, what exactly is inside the bodies? Is it a stainless washer and clip ? What holds it in , how is it removed and re installed, is there a groove inside the body ? Help. Thanks

A ring rests in a grove holding the steel washer in place. I used a offset dental pic to get it loose.
