I got in a Classic AM today and while disassembling it for cleaning/rebuild the on/off literally dropped out of the valve. After looking at it, I realized I hadn't seen one like this before. Then I started looking around and realized how many different on/off styles there are in the Classic style valves. Why? I mean the powertube went from the spring spacers to the solid spacers, but that's pretty much it besides the L10. Were there just a fair amount of aftermarker on/offs? What was the point? I will say that the on/off in this one is the only I have seen like it. And it seriously just drops out of the valve. Odd.
Why so many on/off designs?

sounds like a reactor on/off to me. i guess that was a thing back in the day; third party bolts, on/offs, regulator bodies...all claiming improved performance, etc etc.

If you'd like to sell it let me know please

There was a perceived drop off problem with the classic valves which many manufacturers tried to capitalize on. Most aftermarket on/offs did nothing. Some improved the trigger pull. The Centerflag on/off that came with the hyperframes is the best of the bunch.

Not sure how anyone is determining that it's a reactor without looking at it.... I'll post a pic later. May sell seperate if someone wants it.

Because the 'dropping out' part was pretty common with them if you weren't careful. The bottom part is smaller, IIRCOriginally posted by OPBN View PostNot sure how anyone is determining that it's a reactor without looking at it.... I'll post a pic later. May sell seperate if someone wants it.

Smaller section is solid instead of having holes/slots like a lot of others. I'll get some pics up later.Originally posted by BigEvil View PostBecause the 'dropping out' part was pretty common with them if you weren't careful. The bottom part is smaller, IIRC

My pro-shop, Exotic Sportz, still carries the reactor on/off. They were originally $40 but the manager would sell me them for $20. I'm still relatively new to the world that is automag. I had considered purchasing one but is it really worth it?Originally posted by Cyco-Dude View Postsounds like a reactor on/off to me. i guess that was a thing back in the day; third party bolts, on/offs, regulator bodies...all claiming improved performance, etc etc.

also, look at the mag as a package from the aftermarket standpoint. the rear reg body, to make a new one, is a significant purchase. to CAD it up, spend for the tooling, machine it, materials. the on/off, is a small piece, so its easy to make and easy to sell.

I guess my question more specifically was in regards to the stock on/off. I thought there were multiple stock on/off designs?
