    frustrated owner

I am considering giving my mag up for a bushy LCD. I tried
to get my mag to stop chopping paint. My gun let me down
    several times during critical points.

What am I doing wrong? I dont want to worry about short
    stroking either!

Many things can contribute to paint chopping from not using a foamie on a foamie bolt, as I did, to nubbins to power feed plugs. Can you be a little bit more specific? Is it breaking paint in the barrel or actually chopping it?

I am pretty sure it is chopping because the bolt is
covered with paint. I plan on getting the plastic
          nubbins.

do you have the new feed plug?
how old is your marker and barrel?
did you do a search here for more tips?

If you dont have the new feed plug, I can tell you that it seems to make a difference to me.

I am using 3000 HPA on TKO automag w/ powerfeed
purchased in late 2001. Dye Alumninum barrel
with metal nubbin. Use proball paint.

try a diffrent barrel. Sometimes it helps. Due to the difficulty of manufacture of automag barrels alot of manufacturers make the barrels out of tolerances.

If you're using the "P" shaped metal nubbins, toss them in the trash and go to the plastic nubbins. I replaced a "V" shaped nubbin in my Lapco Bigshot barrel with a "P" nubbin and ended up painting the inside of my barrel pink the entire day. The nubbin worked like a beautiful can opener on the paint I was using. I tried adjusting how far the "P" nubbin reached into the barrel to no avail.

Finally I tossed those evil metal nubbins and went for the plastic ones. I've since fired around a case of paint through my 'mag with zero in-barrel breaks or chops.

Kudos to AGD for the plastic nubbins.

Try a different paint. Proball used to be really good... but they've been sucking as of late (unless they've fixed this recently). Proball and my old mag were not friends.

Oh, is it chopping or breaking? Two different things. Does it break down the barrel or up your feed tube?

i personally had a feed problem with my classic mag recently, heres the story, even if it doesnt help you with your power feed prob

first, my mag is a classic hopper right body with an ans phase 2 ventury bolt and a SP AA 14" barrel, i got it second hand around 4 years ago and this is the first time its had this problem

problem: blowback forcing the balls up the feed tube slowing down the rate of feed causing chopped balls during rapid fire

since this is a new problem in a very proven machine i gotta figure out whats different that might cause the added blowback thats screwing with my game, i check over my gun and i'm totally stumped, everything looks great, so i get out my old stock barrel thats been machined down to 5 1/2", this barrel doesnt shoot very streight but its shortness helps it self clean when you break paint so it seems like a good bet. this also inadvertantly solved my blowback problem, giving me some insight about the problem. we were playing a particularly close range game so everyone had thier guns fireing at 240 fps on the high end, mine was shooting 233ish and thats where my problem was.

the theary: at low velocity the bolt retracts and opens the breach before the ball clears the first porting in the barrel, the barrel depressurizes out the breach instead of the ports, causeing excessive blowback leading to poor feeding and ultimatly chopped paint(dont know how accurate this is but its sounds good)

solution: i raised my velocity to 260ish and no longer had a problem.

i dont know if this story will help you solve your feed problem but it cant hurt, best luck with your mag

DOH forgot to mention... AGD came out with new bolts a little while ago.

They are a bit longer and help prevent blowback.

They are called AGD longnose bolts.
