purging ASA question

I feel a bit dumb having to post this question but I can't seem to get what the problem is with an ASA I have here.
It is an old school type, vertical ASA (screw-in style with a rigid pin that'll open up the Reg on a tank with no flip or switch or anything) BUT it is the purging style which has a minute hole on the side which purges air when you unscrew the airsource from it - I have had and used these types of ASAs before and thought I was familiar with them.

Here is my issue: no matter which type of tank/reg I screw into it, the little purge-hole starts leaking. If I try to "screw it in past the little hole" so that the reg's o-ring'll would stop any leak it won't work - just can't screw it in all the way... I've tried different regs (all Ninjas though) and it won't work.
It does however not leak anymore if I screw in a an airsource adapter all the way and then put pressure on it by attaching that to my reg/tank.

I hope my problem/description is somewhat understandable... :/

Am I missing something here? I'd appreciate any ideas and/or pointers as to what I am doing wrong here..

Try using a bottle oring in the asa before screwing in the bottle. Thats what i do.

issue may be with the ninja bonnet...some are...weird. try a tank with a different brand regulator and see what it does.

If my memory is correct, I think I had this very same problem when I tried using my ninja reg on a ndz ASA twist on/off. I couldn't get it to completely seal and it would his out of the bleed port like you're experiencing. I was putting a small 13ci tank on my havoc Hawaiian style. My fix was using a different ASA twist on/off since I didn't have another small tank. I tried my crossfire tank/reg and it worked on the ndz ASA twist on/off without hissing out the bleed port. I'm not sure what the problem is?

In some ASA the pin is adjustable (set screw) but yours is just milled in it?

seems to me like it has to do with the shape/form of the Ninja regs - I only have those here, so can't really test it (apart from the remote adapter which seals off fine).
Slapped an oring in there and now it seals off fine. Looks a bit ood, as some of the reg's threads are still protruding (visible) but it's sealed...

yep, it's milled in and thus not adjustable. The oring in the ASA seems to do the trick though

eh, it's fine. i never screw my tanks in all the way. once it's pressurized it's not going anywhere lol.

Last resort. A dremel can & will take off too much metal if you are not careful. Its only aluminium, so you can take some sand paper to it, to take it down. It might take some time(sanding & fitting) but the most important thing is. You can take off small amounts of metal, but you can't put large chunk back on...

Valid point. Use low rpm with a fine grit stone. Check fit frquently. Sanding by hand in small places can be painful, especially if you have to break through the anodize.

You may only have to take off a few thousandths. Anything more and you might not have enough to depress the pin. 100-300 grit paper or some emery cloth is about what you should need. Cut small pieces and attach to an unsharpened pencil, or a wooden dowel. Few twists is all it would take.

Never understood why people think you need powertools with aluminium. It's a rather soft metal. But i digress.
