I'm in the same boat and discovered the same hurdles.

Here's a great video series that walks you through the process. It's not specific to the M86, but it's the same approach. After watching the series, you're going to look at the M86 and really appreciate the thoughtfulness of its design. For example, I always wondered what the hole in front of the field strip hole was for. Now I know.

Thanks! And good luck with the build. I think I recently unearthed a pneumatic M90 frame, so assuming that’s actually fully functional, I can also use it as a bit of inspiration.
