cutting down a standard feed?

ok so i am messing with my old mag, trying to do body work ect. anyone have a classic mag standard feed and cut it down? how far, did it work? pics? anyway thanx.

I cut my standard mag feed down so that the bottom of the elbow is right at the top of the vent hole in the feed tube, and it works quite nicely. Just make sure you put some tape or a mark around the feed tube where you plan to cut it so that you don't wind up cutting on an angle ( !)

i have done this to both of the standard feed mags i own and have had no problems i use a pipe cutter it makes a better cut than a hacksaw just make shure to cut out the burr that is left on the inside of the feed neck

I looked into doing this with my standard feed when I bought my revy. I knew prior to getting the revy that the length of the feed tube is required to reduce blow back and allow for consistent ball feed. So if you start cutting it you should find that you will start seeing problems with feeding, specifically more chopping. I wouldn't do it if I were you, but then again you have two people who have and they don't seem to have any problems to report.

I have cut down the feed on my classic body and i didnt notice any difference in feeding. I did not chop the hole day like always. I cut mine down to the point were the elbow was right above the gas hole.Some elbows are different lenghts so measure the amount you want to cut off with the elbow you will be using. Go nice in slow with masking tape around the feed so you can use it as a guide and also if the saw slips it wont wreck the finish.

The feed tube is made extra-long like that to prevent the occasional idiot thinking (and trying) "I wonder what'll happen if I stick my finger in here and pull the trigger?..."

well i see it like this i would rather have to slow down my trigger finger than take a hopper hit every time i started to come out of a bunker cause my hopper is 10 ft in the air.

but wait there is a hole there i wonder what would happen if i stuck my finger in it hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

i cut mine down to the size of a cockers feed tube. heres a pic ( i painted the body black myself, the paint started coming off on the feed tube so i just took it off of there).

I cut mine down and don't have any problems. When cutting try to use a band saw, you'll get a perfect cut every time!
