    I need a new gun!

    I have been playing paintball off and on for about 6 years now, but I have been limited to playing recreation with my buddies (never any tourneys). But now that I can afford to play more and in tourneys I am looking to buy a new gun.

    I want a gun that is reliable, preferably NOT electric because to me it seems only more that could go wrong, and easily upgradeable. And I would like to keep it under 450$ at least (sorry but that pretty much leaves mag or cocker). I would like to go nitro but not right away, however I have heard people say that the automag doesn't run well on co2. In contrast I have read posts of a lot of people using co2 who have not had any problems. I want your honest opinion on what gun I should get, please try not to be bias.

    p.s. If you are running co2 please tell me how it works and what setup you have.

    p.s.s. sorry if there is a similar post, but I wanted answers to my question only.

    Please do a search this has been asked many times before.

    But to sumerise;

    Mags run fine on CO2 just dont dump liquid into the gun. Anti-siphon and an X-chamber or better yet a verticle bottle or remote will all work great.

    Both mags and cockers are good markers out of the box and both can be upgraded to compete with the top end electos. Mags are smaller, lighter and simpler while cockers have lots of bits to play with. You should try to shoot both and if you can play a game with both. That will give you a pretty good idea which one you want.

      What about cold weather though, will co2 even perform at all in cold?

        My Mag would NOT run worth a crap on CO2. I had a X-chamber
        and mine would freeze up in temps under 50F. So I went to CA and no more worries.

            It'd prolly be a better idea to go w/ a cocker here, ya can run co2 trait into it w/ the WGP reg. and have to problems.
            i've tried runing co2 into a mag on bottomline and it don't work

              If its cold enough anything will freeze up on CO2. Mags are no worse than anything else. I've seen cockers freeze up just as bad as any mag ever has (I've seen a cocker 3-way explode due to cold CO2 but that pretty rare). The fact is HPA makes everything *alot* better but mags have no problems with CO2 that everything else doesn't have.

                go nitro!

                A mag will run fine off of CO2 if you have a bottom-line, anti siphon tank and a Palmer Stabilizer, but by the time you pay for that you could easily have a nitro bottle. Brand new 68/3000 Crossfires are $130 or less. I would buy a classic powerfeed, 68/3000 Crossfire, Rev and a CP or Lapco barrel. That is definitely possible for under $500, especially if you buy the mag used. Don't be afraid of a used mag, they are always a good deal, easy to keep running and the trigger will be nice and worn in for you. Good luck!

                    i got mag f/s

                    I was just wondering if you were looking for a used mag. I have a hopper left powerfeed mag, with many smart parts splashed parts, i would include a nitro tank if you want it or a remote and a harness if you would preffer to fun Co2. I also have a revy if you want it. I would be willing to sell most of this for like 400. Just email me if you are interested. My email is [email protected]
