    minimag makeup

Well, i just joined this forum, and just purchased a used minimag. It has a 6stage expansion chamber, benchmark double trigger frame, gas through stock, and I am currently using a lapco bigshot barrel. The finish on the marker is matte grey.

Here is my question. I'm thinking about maybe giving it some "makeup." Cosmetics. I'm happy with it's performance, so i don't really want to change anything on it right now. But i think i would like to make it look nicer. I don't have a pic, or i would post one so ya'll could see what i looks like currently. And on these cosmetics, i don't want to spend an arm and a leg. hehe. I'm not rich.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

P.s. does anyone by chance have a good co2 (20oz) tank to sell?
I once complained because I had no shoes. Then I met a man who had no feet. . . .So I took his shoes. I mean, he didn't need them anyway, right?

Do a search for Red Rider and KP Kustoms. They both do excellent work in powder-coating, in any color you can think of. They're prices are very reasonable too.

There aren't a whole lot of aftermarket bolt on stuff for 'Mags, they aren't built that way. It's hard to improve performance with non-AGD parts, so most companies just don't make all the gadget gear like for other guns.

It seems like Red Rider does some very nice work for reasonable prices. I don't think anyone hasn't been happy with his work.

I polished my main body on my mag. I first sanded off the grey with 400 grit sandpaper. Then I used 600 grit paper. Then I used a benchgrinder with a polishing wheel on it, got some polishing compound and went to work. It takes a while but you can get your mag body looking like a mirror.

Depends on what you want. Color or shine.

I tried emailing redrider but he never responded....

Do not use any other paint besides powdercoating it because it will come off, and look like crap.

Anyway, you can always safely polish the entire body, just dont kill the bottom squarish-knob thing. When I say kill I mean dont grind it hard. Its safe to sand and polish it, but dont sand too much that you round the edges. I polished mine to the point where it almost looks as shiny as my Lapco barrel. If I had a camera or scanner I could show you but I dont unfortunately. Here's what you do: Get some emory sandpaper thats about the fineness of a nailfile becuase emory is strong *****. Then get 400, 600, 800, 1000, 2000 grit automotive wet or dry (wet/dry, waterproof are other names) sand paper. Sand lightly with the emory until you get all of the gray off. Once you do that, look carefully and find the little "dings" which are little dents or marks from the factory sandblast. Get those babies out, then get the wet/dry paper. Spend about 30 minutes on the sub-1000 grits, and sand directly under a running faucet. Make sure you get around the powerfeed and sand in straight strokes. Scratches should all be going in one direction becuase this makes it shinier. Give it a try cause you can always put color over this (just gotta sand down again with a low grit). On 1000+ grits spend like 30 minutes at least.
