Classic - problems with a J&J ceramic barrel

    Hi,

I just had a terrible day's play with my Automag and new J&J Ceramic barrel. My automag is relatively stock, running CO2 with an expansion tank to prevent liquid problems and a bottom feed. It is in good condition & I serviced it fully before the day. I always played with the stock barrel before, but got a J&J ceramic recently. I also have an agitator hopper. I know that a Mag is not set up to ideally run with CO2, but I've played many times before with it using the stock barrel without problems.

My problems were many but all feed related.

    1. Often it would fire 2 balls
    2. I would have at least one chop in the feed area / barrel each game, resulting in a need to completely stip and clean the mag after each game.
    3. I also got numerous barrel breaks per game, resulting in terrible accuracy.

I noticed that the barrel was a little loose when situated in the mag body, but could not detect any other problems. I thought it might be the paint - but J&J is supposed to work very well with smaller bore paint...

Does anyone have any thoughts on what might be causing this problem? Any help would be gratefully appreciated - the last thing I want to do is return to the stock barrel.

check your nubbin, it might be sharp, or put in wrong.

      How do I adjust it?

Thanks for the reply. I just did some further research on the web based on your reply, and it sounds very much as if that might be my problem.

Sorry to be stupid, but how do I adjust it if it is wrong?

      Thanks.

I'll bet that is the problem. Get some of the new plastic nubbins and your problem will probably be solved. You can find them in the Online Store.

for a temporary fix of it, just try to bend the nubbin so it sticks a little more in, and if its sharp, file it smoother, this should prevent the double shooting and barrel breaks

Thanks for your help guys. I've ordered some of the new plastic nubbins. I won't need to play for a couple of weeks, but I'll take a look at the nubbin this evening to see what the current condition is.

Having Same Problem w/ Minimag and J&J Ceramic 12"

Although it's a bad situation, I don't feel alone knowing someone else is having the same problem. Anyway, just to put my 2 cents in, I just talked w/ one of the techs from 888 Paintball and they said that with the warm climate here in San Jose, CA, this particular small-bore barrel wouldn't work in warmer temperatures due to the paint shells expanding. Currently, I use Marballizers and Adrenalin Paintballs. Are there any suggestions for smaller-bore paint you guys can recommend? Or is there any truth to what this tech told me regarding climate and small-bore barrels?

Thanks in advance for your responses...

DO NOT FILE YOUR METAL NUBBIN!!!!! This will cause it to break even faster!!!!

                      Paint Quality

I would say that the paint quality was relatively good. No one else was experiencing the same level of problems that I was, and were generally getting good performance.

it is most likely ur nubbin making u shoot 2 balls at the same time.

                            It was definitely the nubbin!

Well, I'd like to say something cool, like I pulled out the nubbin, filed it and it works fine......but I guess that I've got to fess up....

I didn't realize that the new barrell did not come with a nubbin, and that I was supposed to take the nubbin off the old barrel and put it on the new one. So, I played all day without a nubbin! DOH!

I guess it goes to show how good the barrel and Mag is that it worked at least partially ok (I got 6 players on the day) without the nubbin!

                            Thanks everyone for your help.

well uhmm, if there wasn't a nubbin in the first place there was no need to file it, duhhhhh
