In the manual that came with my minimag, it say that the best barrel length that AGD found was 11 inches. I can not find an eleven inch barrel, so does this mean that a 12 or 10 incher is not "efficient" (I probably spelled that wrong)? This doesn't seem to make sense to me, so any help would be greatly appreicated (I probably spelled that wrong too). Then, also does nitro (opposed to hpa) work better/cleaner on the mag? If I where to put a second on gun reg, would that decrease the recharge rate of the AIR valve? And ( i have so many questions) does AGD make a forward slanting vertical asa for mags or will I have to get one specially made? Thanks I.B.

You'd probably get more answers in the tech forum (and I'm not sure if this is 'blue' enough
).
(What do you know... I was right!
)
What you want is a barrel with an effective length of 11 inches. Ports reduce the effective length of a barrel as they allow gas to vent before the end of the barrel.
I'm sure that's a question that's 'blue' enough. How do you calculate the effective length of a barrel? Does anyone have any calculations for the various barrels on the market?
For something like the LAPCO barrels that have lots of largish holes at the end, the effective length of the barrel is undoubtably close to the beginning of the porting. But for a barrel that has many small holes over a greater length, the effective length must be some distance after the beginning of the porting.Last edited by SlartyBartFast; 06-25-2002, 04:00 PM. -

ok firstof all hpa is nitro. u mean nitro as opposed to co2. A reg would keep the preasure from fluctuating giving better shotonsistancy. I dont thig that it would reduce the refresh rat unless the reg itelf is slower then the air vave. In that case i would. ON the toic of barrel length I have a 14 inch boomy and it works great. Ialso have a stck 11 inch noporting barrel. It is not as accurate, but i ont know about efficient.Comment

Well, ideal is roughly 8-11 inches unported length, longer being better. So look for a barrel that's around 10-11 inches before the porting begins, like a Lapco or 14" SP teardrop.2k2 VF Cocker, STO/Eclipse Blade, Old-Style 14" Boomstick,

Generally its better to have porting start sooner than later -- if the ball passes the porting before all of the shooting pressure has dissipated, the porting will allow this to escape. To compensate, you turn up your velocity a bit so as to accelerate the ball in a shorter distance. This also has the effect of helping shot-to-shot constancy because if there's a bit excess pressure, its effect will be limited by the porting venting the pressure behind the ball at the same spot every shot.
If, however, the non-ported length is too long, there is the risk of running out of pressure too soon and creating a vacuum effect behind the ball. Tom said somewhere that he's seen this happen before a particular gun dyno test for a some other "popular marker".
Since air is around 70% nitrogen anyway, there's no practical difference between HPA and N2 as far as paintball is concerned. For paintball, both should be cleaner than CO2 (although, I do believe that sometimes nitrogen for industry use can be equally as dirty).
When regulators are run in series, they are generally able to be more consistent than one regulator alone. Thus in the case of the Automag it makes sense to run a secondary regulator in addition to the internal regulator within the AIR valve. This second regulator might be an inline reg (like you'd use with CO2) or the reg on your HPA tank. Some people around here place a third reg inline between the tank and the valve, apparently without experiencing any problems. The important thing though, is to ensure at least a 200psi difference between the inputs to the regulators: this will allow them to function effectively and help prevent shoot down (for this its also important to have a high-flowing reg).Comment

The AGD store has an 11 in crownpoint for sale
right here-->http://store.airgun.com/acb/showprod...jectGroup_ID=7
I would not get another regulater. it would be starving the gun or it would have barly any use.
I dont think they make a forward slanting vertical ASA.Ya Man, thats PCP
