Rt Valve Is Giving Me Grief! Help Me Fix The Leak!

I just bought an RT from a friend, and i've found a leak somewhere in the valve. It sounds internal, since I can't feel any air coming out and the sounds are muffled. It's also a fairly large leak, losing about 300 psi every 10 minutes I think. I've heard that it may be the banjo bolt, but I noticed the when unscrewing the two parts of the valve, the brass piece inside had the oring stuck in it. My friend said that was the source of the problem, as he gave me the idea before I even opened the valve up for the first time. So I don't know who to believe. Please give me some ideas as to how to fix the problem. Thanks so much. I don't wanna pay $$$ to visit an airsmith if I don't need to see one.

Gas up the gun and fire it once and hold the trigger back. If the leak stops, then you need to replace the PT o-ring, the o-ring under the spacer in the front of the valve or switch to a shorter PT spacer.

If the leak continues, then replace the o-rings on the end of the regulator valve pin. You'll need to unscrew the black half of the valve, lift up on the brass piece, and then pull out the stem. There's two o-rings and a plastic spacer on the end. Put new o-rings on and try that.

If that doesn't fix your problem, then pull out the on/off assembly and replace the o-ring on the bottom piece by unscrewing the top piece from the bottom piece. Use two cresent wrenches one holding on the square base and one on the wrench flats in the middle of the assembly. Also, there will be a really small o-ring inside of the top piece. Replace that and the o-ring on the bottom piece and see if that fixes it.

I'm assuming that since you can't feel air coming out the back of the velocity adjuster nut, then that's not a problem, but double check and if there is air coming out of there unscrew it one full turn, fire it a few times and that should get it to stop.

Thanks, I hope that will help. Do you think it's anything serious going on inside, or just an o-ring failure? I opened up almost everything in the valve today, thanks to your "classic" RT disassembly thread in this tech forum; i was inspecting and oiling the o-rings. Most all of them were a dark yellow or light brown, and I'd guess those need to be replaced. I think a parts kit would be a good investment right now. HOWEVER, I didn't understand one bit of information from the "classic" thread where you unfolded how to open up an RT valve: how do you find out if the tiny o-ring is shot. I don't understand what you mean by: "If that doesn't fix your problem, then pull out the on/off assembly and replace the o-ring on the bottom piece by unscrewing the top piece from the bottom piece. Use two cresent wrenches one holding on the square base and one on the wrench flats in the middle of the assembly. Also, there will be a really small o-ring inside of the top piece. Replace that and the o-ring on the bottom piece and see if that fixes it." *** Do you mean deep inside the on-off hole or is that the copper square-topped metal piece that is easily taken out with your fingers? Explain that. Thanks alot for the help, Black.
