AGD, have a finish question on the grey mag bodies

If it isn't a company secret can you tell me what it is you coat the grey mags with after they're bead blasted?

I'd like to figure out some way of chemically stripping them quickly before I polish them.

    thanks!

    Nothing.

That's the finish you get when you blast raw SS and since it's SS, it doesn' need to be coated to prevent corrosion. They will spot rust if you don't take care of them and wipe off paint and dirt that accumulates on them.

I polished my body and had no trouble just sanding away. I even had a coat of black airbrush paint on it, plus a clearcoat (which btw does not hold up). It took me about a total of 10 hours becuase I kept screwing up and at one point I had to start over with 400 grit to get rid of the dimples. If I were to do it all over again with a new bead blasted body, it would take around 5 hours. Maybe 4.

I was wondering if that was the case, I don't normally bead blast things made of stainless. Only polish them.
Thanks for the info again Blackie!

DRX975, if you have the right buffing tools a body takes very little time to polish. Of course not everyone has monster Baldor's laying around their shop...

Your right and I dont either. Hell, Im only 15 and I use what I can find. I dont have any fancy sanding tools and I dont have any reason to have them, but I think i did a really good job on my body. Only if I could find 3000 grit sandpaper, my body would look just like my lapco SS barrel. Ahh....
