Stripped and stuck grip frame screws. Can anybody help me get these out?

I got a nice used cocker in the mail today, Everything looks pretty good although I have'nt aired it up yet. The problem is that the screws folding the drop on that came with the gun are severly stripped and apparently glued or locktited in. I tried a few different stripped screw removers and only succeeded in making it worse. As of right now there is a 5/64" screw retractor bit that snapped off inside one screw and both screw heads are completely panned out. I even tried Bob Villa's screw back-out kit. Now I would like to put a bullet in Bob's smug little face. Needless to say at this point it looks like I'm going to have to drill them out and retap the holes. Unfortunately thatnks to the stuck retrator bit I can't make that happen with the tools I have here. Does anyone here think thay can get these out? I would send you the frame and money to send it back and if you make it happen you can keep the black shocktech drop that's on there. I have no need for it and you'd be doing me a huge favor.

Hey, I don't know if this will help, but it's worth a try. Take a phillips head screw driver and some locktite. Put some locktite in the stripped screw head and put the phillips head screw driver in the loctite. Let it dry and then remove the screw. As for the one with the screw extractor in it? The only thing I can say is take it to a machinist or something. I guarantee they will have something to take it out. Hope this helps.

DOH!...did you try heating up the screws with a soldering iron or something? We use a heat gun 12000 BTU when working on blown motors that have loctite on head bolts..normally softens it up after 5-10 minutes.. Who knows bro..goodluck..thats a damn shame.. some idgit loctiting drop screws....one werd.. MORON!

For the screw that doesn't have the extrator bit it it and is just panned out - try hammering a new head in the panned out part with a flathead screwdriver and a hammer. That trick worked on the ignition timing screws on a dirt bike that i used to have. As for the one with the extractor bit stuck in it - try getting a metal bit with some superhard metal (carbide) or diamond tip for a drill smaller than 5/64". Maybe drilling the extrator bit out might work?!? Hope this will help.

Well, update. I completely drilled out one screw and used the leverage from the drop to get the other out. So know I just need to retap the one screw hole. Does anyone know right off the correct tap size?

Thanks for all the advice guys.

I know the diameter is 5/32" you could probably take the screw to a hardware store. Ask the clerk to help you find a nut to fit on the screw you have. Then once you have that... you'll know the dia., and pitch of the replacements you need. I know its not right off... but its in the right direction :) Good luck bro..post some pics of the cocker when yer done :)
