Paint testing tip not working for me

I just tried out this neat tip that Tom posted in his tech tips area
http://www.automags.org/resource/tec..._testing.shtml about six months ago (what happened Tom? Why'd you stop!) but it didn't work for me. I tried it with a 2 week old case of diablo nightmare yellow/pink + white fills, and the things wouldn't break. The stuff breaks fine on targets, maybe a *little* too bouncy, but it isn't messed up in any way (I've kept it stored well, in about 90 degrees temperature and average humidity because it was a bit small for my barrel and I wanted it to swell). Anyway I held it up to six feet (actually probably 6' 6" because thats how far I can reach), and I got up to 15 bounces before I stopped. I did it on a smooth, hard concrete surface. Whats up wit dat?

P.S. you made a reference to "dry paints" in your article. What are these new dry paints, and how are they formed? Oh yea, and could someone elaborate a bit more on how gelatin paintballs are formed, I didn't get a mental picture from his article.

There in lies your problem. When some paintballs swell in the heat they become more "bouncy".

Try storing some paint at room temperature for awhile and see if it makes a difference.

Of course it could just be freak paint. I had a case of 20 bounce marbs once.

        you got lucky

Keep the paint and use it, dont waste anymore on bounce tests!! But then again, the paint could have swelled and become slightly deformed throwing off accuracy.

I have a case of 7-8 month old proballs that are similar to what you are saying, they bounce around 10 times.

Probably absorbed a little excess moisture... ever tried to break one of those balloons you find on your lawn by throwing it at the ground? Same effect, just less extreme. Couple of Marbs I left on my desk averaged 11 bounces before breaking the other day.

Welp, I've spread them out in a large pan about 3 deep, we'll see how they do tomorrow at the field
