    powder coating tolerance

    ok im gunna get my gun powder coated. im hearing underneath the rail should be left alone due to tolerances... is this true or is that like 1 of those really unlikely to happen things

    It's partially true, and by partially I mean..when I got my body powdercoated, I had no problems. But I'm sure if you have both the body rail and body coated, it could cause some problems, since the sear would be lower in relation to the bolt assembly than it would be uncoated. Basically any place where two parts would come in contact with one another, it should not be coated.

    I'd say just mark the area not to be coated with a sharpee (permanent marker) and the coating place should tape it off. If you want to tape it prior to leaving it for coating, make sure you use the correct heat resistant tape thats used for powdercoating. If you don't, you'll have a rough time getting the other tape off

        Use a pencil... Perment marker might show through the powdercoating if you get a light color.
