    VERY Inconsistent Velocity

I installed level 10 on my automag yesterday, and my velocity now ranges from 255 to 295 between shots - in 10 shots at the chrono yesterday, I was seeing this:

    253
    294
    270
    252
    295
    285
    250

    etc

Someone told me that the o-ring in the lvl 10 kit needed breaking in, but I've put about 800 rounds through it and it's not getting any better. Any ideas?

What do you want to know?

I'm using the 1.0 carrier (1.5 leaks), middle spring, 2 shims.. not sure what else to tell :)

how many shims and what spring

if the lvl 10 is too sensitive it will vent some air before the ball is fired in varying amounts depending on how the ball falls in and how you pull the trigger. this can cause velocity inconsistency, and efficiency drops. If you have many carriers in try taking some out. also you may need to switch to a lighter spring.

also make sure you test the same paint and same velocity and barrel and junk with lvl 7 to make sure it is lvl 10 specific and not a bad paint day. or recent inconsistency in the reg.

          2 shims, medium spring

yeah i was going to switch back to lvl 7 to check it but was lazy. if it's not lvl 10, what else could it be?

Bolt binding. If the level 10 bolt catches your barrel it will vent before firing.

Check for barrel wear. I had the same problem before I honed out the inside of my barrel.

Also Dont be using crappy paint. I put some really old oval point blank through my gun yesterday got 30 fps variations... when I put new midnight through it I chronoed 257 258 258 257 259 without me touching anything.

I was using Diablo Blaze. I'll check the barrel too.

OK checked barrel, it looks fine. What about the reg seat?

                same problem

I had the same problem with my emag with the LX. It was very strange. If I chronoed by the RT method I would get velocitys like 254, 290, 269, 234, 280. It was everywhere. If I shot in emodeI would get 290, 292, 280, 299... better but still erratic. I switched to a larger carrier when I got home (which doesnt leak as well) but I havent had a chance yet to see if it shoots better. I noticed the varriable velocities in the game as well.

You can also try replacing your reg seat.

A dirty reg seat causes lots of velocity problems.

Well it might not be the Level 10, it could be the regular velocity problems as well couldn't it? Replace your reg seat, grease the piston and pisto o-ring using an automotive grease, and grease the regulator nut with an anti-seize compund, and with NO GAS, screw the regulator nut all the way in, then back out.

                      i got the same problem...

instaled level 10, works great except for the fact that my velocity is going anywhere between 249-291. Need to know any other methods... the gun was consistant BEFORE LEVEL 10.

on my level 10 test i used BIG BALL paintballs with my LAPCO BIGSHOT barrel. The paintballs would roll down my barrel about an inch from the end and stop. But when I dropped a ball through the feed and blow it out the back it shot out. When I used marballizer with the lapco bigshot barrel (BEFORE I HAD LEVEL 10 INSTALLED) the balls would roll down my barrel and hit the detent. The marballizer would also blow out. Perhaps a paint issue? I'll look into this later in the week and update the post.

                      MY SETUP:
LX : 2 shims, 1.0 carrier, medium spring.
                      Lapco Bigshot Barrel
                      ReTro Valve
                      AGD powerfeed hopper right body.

Good paint to barrel matching is very key to maintaining consistent velocity. If the bore is too large you will have very inconsistent velocity readings, while if it is too small, you will more than likely have many barrel breaks. I noticed erratic velocity in my E-mag equipped lvl 10, but since I was just too lazy to change out my freak inserts I had very erratic velocities. I use Hellfire (an extremely small bore paint) and Evil (a relatively big bore paint). When I went from using the Evil to the Hellfire the velocities dipped and spiked, and I was also getting less gas efficiency.

Of course there are also other possible factors, but the solution to mine was a good paint to barrel match.

Hikaru, dry firing about 800 times seemed to fix mine.. the more I break level 10 in the better the velocity gets. I have a good paint->barrel match too, though.

I had the same exact problem. I changed to the small spring and the problem went away. My marker had the LVL 10 installed by AGD tech. I crono at 285 and had the problem that you mentioned. When I changed to the small spring then it got basically 2fps variations at most. ???????
