    Quietest barrel

i just got my mag yesterday and got everything set up. i currently have a 12" smart parts progressive barrel, but what i'm really looking for is the quietest possible barrel i can get. i've found that it's harder for an opponent to find you in the woods if he can't pinpoint your shot by the sound(i previously had a M98 with a stock barrel, so hiding was next to impossible). air inefficiency is not an issue.

Good to know that somone of Tom's status seeks "relief" from a sport he helped create. A sport now ruled by a single patent.

      I have a 16" All American that's pretty quiet. It's a big bore barrel, measuring .694".

I have a 12" PMI ceramic on mine and it is very quiet, the only problem is finding one since they aren't made anymore.

          You decide...

I am sort of biased towards Smart Parts barrels, I currently have the 14" Teardrop barrel, and it fires like a dream, very quiet, accurate, and it only cost me $53.

That off my chest, the general rule of thumb is, the more porting the barrel has along it's length, the more quiet it is, the less porting, the noisier it is. If air efficiency is currently of no consequence, get a long heavily ported barrel. If price is no issue, get the 14" to 18" Smart Parts Big Daddy barrel.

This is just my opinion on what barrel to get, but the rule of thumb stands true. The best thing to do is try to borrow different types of barrels from people while on the field, attach it to your gun and just to sqeeze off a couple of rounds. :)
