Dye barrels are nicely micro-honed. No the boomy's do not come apart. They are glued so that the threading will not misline due to natural machine wear- so dye says..
BTW it's Chrome(not sure if you can get silver though)

        boomy

yes boom sticks DO come apart, anyone hoo sez otherwise is a fool. ultralights on the otherhand are two piece barrels that do not come apart. stainless barrels are just a one piece. the best of the three in my opinion are the ultralights. yes, i know what im talkin about cuz i work in a paintball shop.

                  pics

would you like a picture of my boomy in two pieces you fruits? i OWN a boomy, it comes apart. and the ultralight only comes in black. the only thing you can get that looks like chrome is the dye stainless if its the look you are going for. its pretty heavy though, just so you know incase that sort of thing bothers you, and its a one piece. and by the by, they dont epoxy barrels, its metal on metal; duznt work. they have a thread sealer for that, incase u guys wanna pretend like u know what yer talkin about in some other barrel thread.

if your boomy is 2 pieces then its cause you put it in a vice grip and twisted till you broke the glue holding the threads... its like me saying look I have a 3 piece boomy after some hack saw modifications

NEW 2002 Boomsticks and Aluminums come apart by hand twisting. Im positive about Aluminums my friend just brought one. Never seen a new 2002 boomstick but im pretty sure they come apart to. The keyword is NEW 2002

Straight from the 2002 DYE catalog I picked up at IAO
The Process of glued tips was just as its threshold of development by only a few other companies. The tip is glued, instead of threaded, for a reason. The method used to join the two pieces together is still in use today and continues to prove its excellence. Unlike gluing, threaded barrels can be off canter due to tool-drift, or can lose their "trueness" from continuous separation. Almost unnoticeable to the untrained eye, these slight variations in tolerances can render your screwed barrel useless. Don't get screwed, get glued.

sorry guys, but the NEW ones do come apart.

The 2002 Dye Ironman Series Boomstick is a high quality tournament series barrel. New for 2002 is the threaded barrel. This allows you to change the length of the barrel in just seconds. Plus, if you use more than one marker you only need a second back piece. DYE designed the 2002 Boomstick for ultimate compatibility. Made of Stainless steel & aluminum this barrel not only looks sharp, but has a very nice shot grouping. Go with the barrel the pro's use and go with Dye.

The talk of 2 piece boomys that come apart have been out for a while now. Just go to PB City (whenever they get their server back up), or even check PBNation under the Barrel and Paint forums.

Some ppl who have gotten the 2002 Ultralite Cockers have claimed to get matching threaded 2 piece Boomys along with their gun.

Not sure when they are gonna start selling the barrel kits, but maybe in the very near future.

Kinda sad how they bash threaded barrels then turn around and make a kit like that. Not looking too credible at all IMO (*cough*hippocrate*cough*wheeze*).

Either way, the new threaded Boomys are out and truly exist, anyone who believes other wise is a fool.
