    Mag Upgrades

I am just getting back into Paintball. When I used to play on a consistant basis, my Mag used to dominate!! I could out range, lay down more fire and be more accurate than any other gun I played against (except other mags).

Now I am just getting back into it I seem to be experiencing either a decrease in range or others have increased drastically. My mag has a venturi bolt, some valve mods, and I normally use either a Smartparts 16" All American barrel, or a 12" J&J Chrome barrel with Smatparts spiral porting, or an Armason with internal rifeling. I am in the process of switching to N2/HPA.

What modifications should I look at for my mag? Can anyone give me a hand ?

    Additional info

Also Which Barrels should I consider for Quiet, and accurate shots. I'm considering the BoomStick serries from Dye or the Freak System.

glad to see you back in sport and on the AO boards. The automag can still dominate like you described but you have to make some new and kew modifications. Such things as the lvl 10 and intelliframe can greatly increase the performance of your marker. The lvl 10 makes it impossible for you to chop and the intelliframe can raise you rof slightly and make it easier for you to shoot while providing a instant reply by your rev. loader. Other larger upgrades include the retro valve. The fastest mechanical firing valve in paintball. You can get a retro valve for 200$ in the trade in program and a lvl 10 for 85$ (probly the best upgrade out thier) and a intelliframe for 115$. These are the best and probly the most expensive upgrades nessary. Other small upgrades you can do are a new pf plug wich increases the flow of paintballs, a new piston (15$) wich alows the use of HP.

Above all if you do not have nitro/HP and a electric loader get those. These will increase the performance of your mag (especially HP) the most. Hope you stick with the automag.

your berral question was added while i was typing my last response. I would recomend the Freak system because you can match your paint size to your berral size. A good match is the largest dertermining factor in accuracy.

          Thank a few more ?'s

Thanks for the help. I'm gonna shoot for the lvl 10 and the intelli feed. first. I think I might suck up the extra $100 and keep my automag valve, and build a second Mag from the left over parts.

What were you saying in regards to the Piston for HP? I though Mags could run HP with out any modifications???? That was what I was told, if that is the case I'm glad you said something. Which HP tanks should I look at?

I will always use a mag in some form or another!!! Do you know if there is any plans to make an AGD electronic trigger frame for the mags/mini???

i'm glad you brought up the electronic frame in regards to poduction by AGD. For some time now Benchmark has been making a new frame certified by AGD. This meen that it is up to AGD standards and isn't another Boo-yah frame. It's not actually electronic according to sources but more like the e-mag, a magnetical enginerred trigger or something like that. I plan to wait and either get that (Medusa frame) or get the intelli and go retro.

For the reg piston thing. Depending on how old your mag is, mine is 10 years old. If you want to run HP you need to buy a new reg piston assebly, for 15$ wich cn be found on the agd store. I have been running m mag withthe old one for a long time and i could not get my velocity ovr 285 and it leaked alittle. I just ordered one myself. It's no big fo the piston, just take the old one and drop in the new one.

As for HP tanks. Thier are so many diferent types, sizes, presures that it is u to your styl of playing realy. If you can spend the money the best tanks imop are the flatline (comming out with 4500 psi sometime soon) Max-flow, angel air, and a few more that i can't think of. Those are all high priced, ome more then oters, but very very nice. If you can get a 4500 fill and lik the extra 1.5times shots get the higher presure. If you don't need the extra shots just get a 3000psi. Sizes range from 45ci to 116ci. Describe where, and how you normally play and i could give you some more advice.

              Style of Play

I currently run my mag on a remote, I like my gun to be light and very mobile. I used to be a front player, but I'm trying to get a new team together now in Jacksonville, FL so that may change. I am fairly aggressive, I will lay down alot of paint if I have to , although I do prefer to be a little conservative in Rec ball. I am kind of a big target, I am short and stocky, but I am fast. I'm still getting used to the hole speed ball craze. I do prefer the woods and some stealth!!!!

well things like budget come into play with such a large upgrade like a air system but... if you shoot alot and are int tourney i would recomend a 88/4500 system or something like that. That will give you plenty of shots. If you want to play front this sytem would also be a good size too, not to big but because of the 4500psi you will still have enough shots for playing back. A air system is basically determined on two things, budget and the a general amount of shots. If yo take alt of shots and can afford it get a good 88ci (apx. 1320 shots)or 68ci (apx. 1020 shots)/4500 system if you don't want to spend that much money consider a 88/3000 system. It's realy up to you

Tnaks for the help. Where can I get more info on the Benchmark frame? I think this is how I'm going to set up the mag.

                  Intelliframe
                  LvL 10
                  Retro
                  68/4.5K (to start)
I want to get a black minimag body for it
                  ANS Sharkgill Sight rail
                  Vertical bottle adapter
                  and a gas through grip

I will need a new power loader I'm looking at the Halo B, do you have any suggestions? I was also considering the Warp Feed, but I'm not sure

I would like to eventually run the AGD flat line system for HP, but I figured I can get a less expensive system to start

you can get more inf on the new frame by searching for "Medusa" in the search. According to someone who is on the test team, it wll be comming out this mid-October at the World Cup in Florida for apx. 130$. It will have a magnetic return after you shoot.

The Halo B is the absolute best loader. You would NEVER have problems with outrunnning the Halo even with a retro valve or medusa frame. The warp is also very good but it is a unique setup and I would recomend at least seeing (in person)a gun with one before buying it. The Halo loads 17bps and is a convential loader type, thats why i would prefer it.

If you wanted to get a cheap air sytem before you got the flatline 68/4500 (my favorite and possibly the best for rt/classic mags) you can find lots of good tanks on the used clasifieds on this forum for good prices. You could easily find a good tank that you coud use for any amount of time.

Above all the nitro and new loader will increase your peformance the most. The nitro will tighten your shot grouping and make a signifigant diference in velocity consitancy. If you buy all of the performanceitems you have listed your mag would be at the top of the food chain once again.

you could also get a hyperframe made by centerflag. From what iv'e heard you can lay down alot of paint (you could use search to find out the exact bps). but it is somewhat expencive(over 300)

                            Z Grip

What is so special about the Z grip? Is that the angled one form AGD that looks like some one bent their trigger frame?

yah the z-grip is angled for comfort, they are tottaly preferece. I havent shot with one but while looking at my shooting posture i noticed it bend my wrist kinda like a z-grip. If you get any loader other then a Revolution then the intelliframe wont intellifeed. Normally this is ok because you won't need to inellifeed with something like a halo but if you bought the frame for that reason you could be disapointed. If you want to get a Halo and want to buy mechanical frame that has a good trigger pull i would wait the month for the Medusa to come out and consider that.
