My retromag is breaking like MAD

Ok. I played with my mag this past Saturday, nd I was chopping left and right. First, I thought it was my TurboRev (since it was acting up), so I tried a plain old non-agitating hopper and shot slowly (like, 3-4 bps or less). I still chopped about every 4th or 5th ball. My nubbin was in good shape. I was shooting marbs through an autospirit. What the heck was up? Any ideas?

      chopping...

Were you chopping or were they breaking in the barrel? Either way, I have seen some Marb batches getting a little bigger. They may very well have been too large for the tight bore (.686) of your Autospirit. Sometimes when this occurs even the light upward pressure of you nubbin can keep the ball from fully entering the tight breech portion of the barrel and result in chopping at the bolt. It will also lead to breaks as the ball is forced through the barrel.

If you like your Autospirit I would strongly recommend you also purchase a Lapco Big Shot. That way, when your paint is a little bigger you can step up to the larger bore. As I have stated in other posts, I have always found my mags to chop MUCH less frequently with larger bore barrels.

Of course, you could also be shortstroking the trigger. From your description, though, it sounds more like a paint/barrel issue.

Well, every time they broke, there as paint all over my bolt and up the powerfeed tube. But, I think the marbs were getting bigger. I did the blow test with one afterwards and it wouldn't go through my autospirit. Time to break out the E-mag barrel.

          Yep...

I think you will find that was the problem. The bigshot is a great buy at @ $47. Also, I just put a 12" CP on my Cocker. Cost $37 and shoots great with a .689 bore. Of course, on a mag I would get the 14". I find the longer barrel helps me snap on target more easily. Good luck!

Ive found that the marbs are getting larger it seems. Im now using the .695 insert in my freak kit with them, anything smaller and I can barely push a ball through with a rod.
"it constantly leaked from the 3 way. I bought all new pneumatics and the leak just moved. I sat down and looked over Ravi's cocker site and messed with it and it still did'nt work right. I took it to a local "cocker expert and it worked ok until I got it home. Needless to say I have never had the urge to throw something off a cliff more." - Load SM5 on owning an Autococker
