Whats causing my lvl10/retromag to leak out back??

Ive recently put a lvl 10 in my retro mag, but for some reason it has started leaking out the back. Ive took the back apart and oiled it and put it back togeater but it still does it. Would a lvl 10 cause it to leak out the back? Any response is greatly appreciated! Thanks

Put the shortest spring on the bolt. Turn down the velocity until it shoots below 300fps with the shortest spring. Once you get that done, we can evaluate the problems. Let us know how it turns out.
Except for the Automag in front, its usually the man behind the equipment that counts.

the shortest spring isnt going to be too soft on paint, I would go with the cut spring. If it leaks out the back when you turn up your velocity to get it to fire, then you need a new reg piston.

(your using the biggest carrier that doesnt leak right?)

        one last cause

If the reg piston is shot, you won't be able to put the proper amount of "back pressure" into the marker. In otherwords, the only two situations you can have are a) pull the trigger nothing happens (because there isn't enough pressure to push the bolt) and b) if you turn up the velocity adjuster and the marker vents out the back.

buy a new reg piston and try that. Or turn down the velocity and see if you can find that "sweet spot" between situations a and b.

Would a shorter spring (the stock one) fix this problem even though it might be a little rougher on paint?

I use the shortest spring in mine and I've never chopped a ball. It fixed the problem for me.

I put the shortest spring in and it has fixed it. Thanks guys!

Just wanted to point out the reason that you had a problem with venting:

Your reg piston is dysfunctional at the higher operating pressure, I can say this because when you use the larger spring it takes more input pressure to power the marker.

Changing the spring does have an effect on the amount of pressure needed (the pressure goes down therefore you don't have a problem with running at too high of a pressure)...

However, you will not be using your level ten to it's full potential, the larger spring is considerably softer than the smaller spring. I would consider saving up and eventually replacing my reg piston in order to eventually use LVL10 at it's best.

Yes, use the shorter spring until you get a new regulator piston assembly.

Im confused, the retro valve is less than 3 months old, why is the reg piston shot already? Im going to play hard with it tomorrow (sun) and see if it chops with the shortest spring. If it dosent chop, there would be no need in replacing the reg piston assembly right, or am I overlooking something? Thanks

Right now it has the single groove carrier with 2 shims and the shortest spring. So I cant make it any softer on paint unless I replace the reg pistong assembly?

Your reg piston assembly shouldn't be sot after just three months. If it is bad then it was defective from the start.

You should be able to use the middle spring without having the valve vent air out the back. Maybe you can call AGD and arrange to get a new reg piston assembly. Pay for it up front and then send the original one back for warrantee credit. That way you are not without your valve while you wait for the parts.
