    Opinions from Classic owners plz.....

I just started playing Paintball as a regular form of excersise and stress management (:)) in the last 2 months. A friend of mine who has been playing for a few years asked me to come out and play with the group that he plays with at a local field and I've been showing up ever since. I ended up buying a used Classic 68 from one of the guys at the field and wanted to get some opinions on the marker. Here's what it came with :

    Mag Classic Feed
    Air America raptor 4500psi tank
    Pro-connect high pressure disconnect.
    Hurricane 8 hole reg upgrade
    Double trigger
    Smart parts 16" barrel

I paid $400 for the whole thing, which I think was a pretty good deal considering the setup. Newer markers I was looking at would have cost me double since I only wanted to go nitro and not C02. This marker I guess is about 2-3 years old. I bought a parts kit for it but haven't gone through the whole thing yet. I do tend to have problems with short strokes when I play due to the pretty heavy trigger pull. I may consider an intelliframe on the off-season and some other upgrades suck as a LvL10 and maybe the newer valves. The barrle is kinda long for my style also so a couple of different sizes will be in order for next year.

So, I was just curious as to what people thought of the setup and wanted to see what some of the more experienced players might suggest for upgrades and the like. I'll be going through searches like crazy the next few days trying to learn all I can but I wanted to throw my name out there and say "Hi" to everyone on the board!

    Thanks everyone!

    First of all, Welcome Aboard!

Secondly- You got a good deal. :) Be happy.

Thirdly- Here's a couple of upgrades-

Barrel- make sure it's a good paint-to-barrel match. Paintballs come in different sizes, and the inner bores of barrels are also different sizes. Accuracy & air efficiency will come from a good match. There are a few barrel kits out now that allow you to size the barrel to the paint. The Freak & Equation sets come to mind.

Valve- ReTro Valve is the next, and only upgrade right now. Runs only on HPA (which you already have). Is the fastest recharging valve in paintball. Will lighten the trigger pull somewhat and has a reactive kick to push the trigger back to firing position. (Redesigned airflow inside the valve)

Intelliframe- will also considerably lighten the trigger pull. A beautiful thing. And it can be hooked up to a Revvy Loader or Warp Feed.

Level 10- If you are chopping now, get it, and your worries are over. It is almost impossible to chop with one. (I say almost b/c I have one and have chopped, but there were feed issues and an over-worn o-ring to blame) You can see all the proof as well as tech info on the main page.

Loader- Revvy, HALO, Ricochet: all motorized loaders will feed the beast you are building. Find one that you like and go for it.

Warp Feed- takes the hopper off the top of the gun, and allows you to shoot sideways for about 7-8 shots. It's a friction feed system that pushes the balls into the feed chamber.

A new body may do you well. Powerfeed is the rule of the day now, and you won't get as much bobble of paint in the feed w/ it. (although Warp bodies and vertical feeds are popular too)

As always, it's YOUR gun so in the end, it's YOUR decision. Use our handy little search function to learn more about anything I've posted and feel free to message me with any questions.

(Oh, and don't bother with any upgrades that don't come from AGD [other than Barrel , hopper and tank]. 3rd party stuff on mags just doesn't improve the performance of the gun. Stick with AGD and you won't go wrong.)

Thanks guys. I really appreciate the advice. I plan on picking up an intelliframe this winter since the frame I have now is a double trigger with a "K"ustom home made trigger guard. It tends to bite my upper trigger finger a little during battle and it's a helluva nuisance. I plan on the LVL10 too, but may not be able to swing the Retro valve yet since the price is $300 w/o the original valve which I don't have. I'll have to see how things go this off-season since I have a bundle of joy on the way in Feb.

              A quick question if I may :

How tight in the bore should the on/off valve be? I have a complete parts kit that I am going to install in the gun sometime this week to replace all the seals and I'm curious about the on/off. Should it come out easily or is there some trick to it before I got to take it out?

              Thanks!

That's a pretty damn good deal, considering it came with a pretty nice Air America 4500 psi Tank.

If you break ANY paint at all, I would recommend that you get a lvl 10 kit. I've managed to chop/break 1 ball in the last 3 cases I've shot, and that's because my warp feed's dwell was much too low, and it was constantly mis-feeding (every 3rd shot) and this one somehow got stuck in the breech and nailed by the bolt 4-5 times.

Intelliframe is a good choice also, probably the most comfortable trigger frame I've ever used. and I've used them all, Dye, benchmark, Stock, you name it. I recommend the blade trigger version.

about the on/off assembly, you should be able to pull it out with your bare hands. Make sure that once you do replace all the seals and whatnot, you lube them up good, since they'll be dry.
