    ??Air Powered Warp Feed??

I had a friend down last weekend, a non paintball player, that is a materials designer/engineer. After getting out and firing my Emag he had a slew of ideas how to work on it to make it more 'practical'. One suggestion he had that sounded feasible was to air power the warp feed. He started talking about Gas Flow Dynamics and I was lost to be honest.

He suggested running a split valve off the flatline regulator that would go into a...I forgot the name of the valve/spring he mentioned...to rotate the wheel and power the warp feed. He figured it would take nominal air and would eliminate the excessive plastic that the 9V takes up, as well as eliminate any problems caused by a slow/dying baterry in the warp feed.

All you design and engineering guys out there, does this sound possible? I have a spare warp feed that he asked to 'borrow' to frankenstein it, I said I would send it to him after I thought about it. What do ya'll think? Crazy talk or possible with some work?

I don't know anything about engineering/mechanics that would apply to that... but if you have a "spare" warp just lying around, I could always put it to good use =)

The spare is for when my main one bites it, breaks or I decide to overly tinker with timing/problems. :) Otherwise it would be all yours JB. One reason it is the 'spare' is because I got a gun hit that hit the plastic right around the motor behind it, the shot cracked the plastic and got paint inside near the board and stuff and i figure why press my luck with it unless I have too.

Air driven impellers are not a new thing. They have been around for a long time.

As for a Warpfeed, using propelant from your air tank may make your gun more of a gas hog than it is.

Also the weight issue, in a way, you may actuallly be gaining weight. What you lose in battery and plastic, you will pick up again in regulators and solenoids. This may weigh more.

I read on WARPIG once that Tippmann has created a prototype loader that is air driven. The only problem is that it would only work on 98's cause they have that little air hose or whatever where you can also hook up their cheap version of an RT.

The problem with that would be that you would have to use a fairly large amount of air, cutting down your shots per tank. It would also be more expensive then battery power. You want an alternative, then get rechargable batteries.

                um, very gas inefficant.

hrmm anyone have a Shocker or Adrenaline Angel? maybe if we turnthe air up on the air assist somehow.

Well, i think it sounds like a good idea, because of batteries running low. But can be the same with air running out. I don't think it would be any more expensive. Where do you guys get air/how much do you pay? I guess i'm just fortunate to get air for free and filled every game (if needed), but i also get batteries for free. Anyway, I've studied plenty of engineering aspects, and it doesn't sound too radical or anything, but to buy a battery powered feeder, and make it into an air powered, would be impractical, and an unecessary cost. Although buying an already gas powered would be nice, yet there would still need modifications with the air tank. Ok, before i babble on more than i have, I'll just end my own little opinion.
