Freak Tip Barrel Length vs Range and Acurracy

This applies to all 2 piece barrels with inserts actually.
Is there really any benefit to running a longer barrel?
Your insert controls accuracy the only thing the tip does is quiets the muzzle report. Am I correct
    Thanks

Thats what the test show anyway. 6 to 8 inches of control bore the rest is all for sound and/or show.
That which does not kill us, cripples us for life.

      check this:

we tested a merlin, AKA cocker. These guns are know to shoot
very consistent strings of paint with +/- 1fps.

With a 12" tip and a 14" tip we saw approximately 20fps difference
      in velocity.

This is not absolute and I encourage you to try it out.
Next time you are at the field, grab a friend with a diff tip and
give it a try. We also need to test the tear drop v/s aa tips.

No increase in range. Period. Not Physically possible. Tips affect efficiency, volume (Sound) and ease of aiming (Longer barrel is easier to aim).

Advantage is 1 barrel can match multiple paint sizes, and you can afford to have more bore sizes due to the cheaper cost of inserts. Paint/Barrel match is important for consistency, consistency and a stable firing platform are the only 2 effects the gun itself has on range or accuracy. Efficiency changes are what ezrunner saw.

Yes,I use an 18" tip, I use it because it allows me to tuck in tighter to a sup air bumper because I can use the barrel to deform the bunker, and hid my marker while still being able to shoot. It also means I have less problems shooting through Hyperball ridges, because the barrel goes all the way through the ridge.

          well

I think that if your marker for one reason or another had differing
velocities with the different length tips, then range would
          be affected.

I am not sure on accuracy though, I had the 14" tip on my
bushy and traded out for a 12" cause the marker didn't line
up right for me w/ the longer
          tip.

It shoots great now though.I like the 12" tip for all around play.

The changing velocity when you change tips indicates 2 things:

            1. Some tips are more efficient (Velocity rises)

            2. Chrony after you change tips.

Because your velocity is set according to the chrony, your range will be the same (Barring a Flatline or Z-Body)

              that makes sense

For a given velocity from the
same barrel with the same paint,
the flight path should be the
              same.

I was looking at it from a
              different perspective, thinking
of efficiency is a more correct
              analysis.

              I tip my hat.

from all the tests I've done with porting, barrel length and bore size, bore size is much more significant than anything else. take a barrel with porting and chrono it in. then tape over the ports. there is no gain in velocity, only noise. take two barrels of the same bore but but different length. there is no difference until you get into the 16" length. it shows a slight decrease in velocity. if you take two barrels with different bore size, the one that is too tight or too lose shows a decrease in velocity. I've noticed that a barrel that is step bored too soon loses velocity and a constant bore that is too long loses velocity also.

I don't know how you were getting a 20 fps increase with a longer step bored tip. those tips are large bore and 12" out, acceleration is done.
