Most Accurate Barrel for a Mag

First thing, I know that this post is going to be biased, but I am looking for opinions. Also, any hard statistics (i.e. measured groupings in a controlled environment) would be great.

I've heard two main barrels, Smart Parts All-American, and Dye Boomstick. I'm sure there are others as well. I have a J & J custom aluminum barrel for my Vert feed minimag that isn't too bad.

I know that the paint matters, so if someone has tested the barrels w/the paint being a control, not a variable. (i.e. same barrel sizes that match paint) I would be very pleased with some input. I don't play much speedball and I don't really care if my barrel is long.

Most of my shots are from a decent range anyhow, I am the back shooter, so I lay a lot of paint from long range, and I want the paint to end up where I put it.

Also, between the Dye and the AA, which lengths are the best? Is there really a difference from a 12" to 14" to 16" barrel? And are the differences distance, accuracy, and/or consistency? Please let me know what you come up with.

Thanks to any and all who answer!

this is what i hear. back players need to shoot a lot of balls in the same place. so get a 10" barrel (doesnt effect range, despite the myth) becuase the 10 inch barrels dont put as much drag on the ball and distort the ball, therefore, giving you a closer grouping of shots

        Thanks

I just picked up an 8" Stainless unported barrel for $15.01 w/ $4.99 s&h. I can't wait to get it, and thanks again!

I figured my barrel couldn't shoot 250fps and sucked because it has like 10" of non porting, and 4" of almost no porting at all.

        Thanks!

Your barrel length will not effect your accuracy or range one bit!! A good paint to barrel match is essential to good air efficiency and shot to shot consistency!! I highly recommend the Equation barrel set!! Very customizable, and frighteningly accurate!! But then again, there are many good barrels out there!! Also, while very air efficient, the unported barrels are not very accurate because when the ball leaves the muzzle, the diferrence in pressure throw it off course!! If you do a search, Tom was explaining that phenomena!!

barrels are a give/take relationship with consistency and efficiency.

The right barrel length for a certain marker depends on the markers peak pressure. In the mag's case it's 8-10" not 12.

Short effective length barrels are not gas efficient because they dont give the ball enough time to accelerate however since the vent pressure abruptly they are great for shot to shot consistency.

The Freak set is a great idea but needed improvement IMHO. The inserts are too short therefore horrible on gas.
The inserts are also not honed very well so if a ball breaks, too bad.

I myself looked to the CP pro kit. The backs are longer so better on gas and they are also honed much much better. Even if I get a barrel break, the barrel cleans itself in less than 4 shots.

I get +/-0 over the chrono and I have no complains over the amount of gas I use.

I dont remember if it came up but the reason some fronts are so long and still used is to push sup air bunkers out of the way.

              *edit*
As Toymyster stated the Equation set is also a VERY good design however I didnt like the way it looks as per personal preference.
