    New Owner, need infos !!

Hi there. Just got a classic Automag with wood grips and 10" barrel, looks sweet and compact. Shoots rather quiet too. I've never shot a mag before and I notice what you guys called shoot-downs ?? Is it because the valve couldn't recharge the air fast enough ? If that so, what other ways can be done to solve this problem. I heard of level 10 and the idea is to lessen chops (?), but will it also allows a mag to shoot fast ? Also what about the go-retro program, will the retro valve help to increase the recharge capacity ? One more: will an aftermarket inline regulator work ?
I'm sorry for all this question, but I've tried my friend's cocker and it can shoot really fast, so hope my mag can compete with his cocker performance wise. thx again guys !!

Welcome to the world of Mags!

Read around a bit and you'll get an idea of all of the things available for your Mag.

The first thing you can do to increase your fire power is get the AGD Intelliframe. It's a double finger frame that first of all allows you to shoot faster since it's a double finger trigger, plus it's setup so you can intellifeed your Warp Feed or Revolution to keep up with your ROF.

The next upgrade to look at is the Retro Valve. This will put your gun on a new level in terms your capable ROF. With a good adjustable output system, you'll have one of the fastest shooting mechanical gun. The RT is the fastest mechanical gun and the Retro Valve basically turns your gun into an RT.

Shootdown is when the ROF is faster than the rate at which the valve can recharge. This will lead to shots that don't go as far as the first shots in the rapid fire string because there's less pressure in the air chamber as a result of the valve not recharging quick enough.

The Retro Valve is the fastest recharging valve for any paintball gun. 26cps without any shootdown. It's a spendy upgrade, but well worth it if you're looking for more firepower. Keep in mind, you must have Compressed Air to use the Retro Valve. Co2 will not work.

The LVL 10 upgrades is to eliminate ball chops and breaks. It does not speed up the ROF of the gun, but is the best $85 you can spend on your Mag. Unless you flat out never break or chop paint with your Mag, then you should get this upgrade.

Don't get an aftermarket inline reg. for your gun. It triple regulates the gun when you're running Compressed Air and can cause shootdown.

Also, are you running CO2 or an HPA tank?

If your running Co2 then thats probably why .. co2 is extremely sensitive to rapid fire and temperature ... so if your using a co2 tank you should upgrade to some sort of HPA (compressed air) tank ... you can get em pretty cheap, check the AIR SYSTEMS forum.

Hope you like your mag ...

      Sincerely,

Like mantioned?? What is your air source, and, are you running a remote?? I noticed when I ran a remote it really hurt my rechage time, the best setup by far is a compressed air tank on the gun with a drop forward!!

          THX !!!

Wow, thx guys, it really clear up my mind quite a bit. I'm running HPA right now, although today at the field, I let one of my friends use it and he used Co2, the gun froze up and shoots clouds of white smoke (liquid Co2??). It's scarry, I might have to check the o-rings and lube the gun again.
I think I saw the video clip of an e-mag w/ level 10 in this website. just curious what kind of air valve does an emag has, because it can really rips w/out any shootdowns. Well, guess that's it for now. I really2 appreciate your help. Thx !!

Welcome to AO bluesboyk3! The more Texas AO'ers the better!(You just missed a Tx. AO meet in Houston at paintball usa, our next one will be in Dallas.)

            to the tech stuff-

Are you sure what you experienced in the trigger pull was shootdown and not short-stroking? A properly set-up a.i.r. valve should be able to pump out 16bps no prob, but if you shortstroke the trigger you'll mess up your rhythm. New mag users(just like new cocker users) need time to get used to the triggerpull. However if your mag is not tuned properly you could be getting both shootdown and shortstroking, since your in Houston, you should stop by Paintball Maxx and have Brad(BradAGD here on AO) look at your mag, he'll be able to fix any issues(if any) with it and give you all the info you may want to know.

Think of your mag as your high quality car, you wouldnt put the cheap gas in it would you? A mag, like a high quality car, loves quality gas. An A.I.R. valve can run off Co2 but once liquid gets in the valve, it'll freeze. Certain measures need to be taken to make sure the liquid doesnt get in so easy when dealing with Co2.

As for the Emag, it's basically the same exact valve as an RT/Retro/RTP with very minor changes(on/off assembly). They are both capable of the same things.

            Any other questions?
