    Sand and Polish My Mag?

Hey guys at AO. I just bought a classic mag, and everything is working fine except the body tube is a bit scratched up. I was wondering if anyone had sanded the paint off theirselves and polished the gun to be chrome. I was wondering what tools would be involved in the sanding and if its relativly easy or hard to do and also what kinda of wax would i need to get that bad boy shining. I was also wondering if there was a technique or anything. I dont want an ugly mag, lol. Thanks

im not so worried about sending it to someone, my dads friend owns a body shop and im allowed to use everything there. I was just wondering if anyone has previously done this and what grit sand paper they used and exactly the procedure. And any pics if someone wants to show me their mag.

start with around 200grit paper and work your way down to 2000 grit paper to give it a really nice finish...oh, and once you get to around 1000 girt, wet the paper before you sand it

hope that helps. yes, polishing it WILL take some time and you just have to be patient

What I did was started with 300, then 400, 600, 800, 1000, and finally 1500 grit paper.I have actually found that if you keep the body and paper wet through the whole process that works better. Also make sure you wash the body down really well inbetween each grit and to change the direction you're sanding as well. The reason is that when all the scratches from the previous grit are gone you know you're just about read to move on to the next finer grit of paper.

Once you've sanded the body with all of the levels of paper make sure to wash the body once more to get any remaining dust off. What I did then was to polishing with Mothers wheel polish. You can find it at any autoparts store, like $5 for a little jar. I then put a few coats of carnuba car wax on it. I got a mirror like polish on it. I think it took about 6-7 hours by hand to do it but it's worth it.
