As you can tell I am fairly new to automags and newer to the forum but it sounds to me like the velocity is too high or low. Not exactly sure which. I know that if it's one it shoots out, if it's the other it won't fire. I think too low it won't fire and too high it shoots out so try turning the velocity adjuster counter clockwise with an allen wrench. That's my best guess.

      About your friend's 68 classic...

Hmmm...It doesn't sound like a velocity issue--it sounds like a problem with your on/off assembly. I know you said that you have replaced all the o-rings and have a new sear--but I wonder if the sear is sitting properly inside your rail. The on/off assembly doesnt seem to be working properly--because once you fire the marker--the sear (working like a teeter-totter sp?) should come up(the back end of it) and press up on the on/off pin, which shuts off air-flow to the front of the marker. However, this doesn't seem to be working in your friend's. I would do the following:
      1. Take the grip frame apart and make sure that the sear is sitting properly (aligned and all)
      2. Inspect the on/off assembly--check the o-rings again and replace any that seem worn.
      3. Be sure that the regulator seat (inside the valve) is pressed in all the way.
      This should help.
      Good luck!

Do you have the bolt spring installed?

        Check the Powertube O-Ring.

        Then the On/Off.

Velocity too high results in gas venting out the BACK of the regulator, not the barrel...

I would check the on/off assambly, it should be put together like the one here http://store.airgun.com/acb/showdetl...ID=153&CATID=6 If you have the older brass peice then the cuts go up when you install it, also make shure the on/off pin is in right the grove shoud be twords the top. If either is in upside down the gun will leak like crazy, and it happens all the time. Good Luck
