right now i'm running a M98c with a Lapco Barrel, double trigger, and trigger spring replacement. i've been wanting to get a new gun for a while, and i was looking at mags. i like them for there ruggedness, reliability, and handling. but performance wise, would a TKO automag (automag offered by paintballgear.com, has a smart parts barrel, foregrip, and bottomline included) be much of an improvement over my current setup? why, and in what areas?
TKO mag that much of an upgrade?

First off, welcome to AO.
I upgraded from a Spyder Compact 2k to the TKO, so maybe I can help a bit.
If you read around here you'll quickly discover that range and consitancy is more a product of matching paint to your barrel.
But you are absolutely correct about the reliability and ruggedness of the Mag. It's basically a tank of a marker. About the only thing that will/can ever go wrong with it is an O-ring.
If you are considering the TKO, go ahead and plan to two upgrades. First of all, the Level 10 bolt is great. ActionVillage sells them for $68 and it's HIGHLY recommended. The second upgrade is basically personal preference, but get an Intelliframe. Beyond those, you'll probably pick up another barrel or two and that would be it.
If you do decide to upgrade to the TKO, I would suggest you move to HPA at the same time. If you're on a tight budget then pickup an expansion chamber to replace the gas-through that will come with your TKO.
I'm sure other members will offer more advice.
Hope some of this helps.

i was also thinking of just springing for an RT pro. i've been playing paintball for over 2 years, and i think i owe it to myself :)Comment

RT Pro's rock ... but again you might want to pick up the LEVEL 10 kit with it. This way you can fire like crazy and if you dont happen to hit the trigger right a shot or 2 you wont burst a ball.
The RT valve is the SAME internals as the Emag and Xmag so its that good of a valve ... combine it with a level 10 and you've got a FAST ROF and no breaks ... combine it again with an INTELLIFRAME and now you've got an intellifeed with your hopper, and the leverage on Intelliframes is just very well done, I put one on my classic mag and it improved my ROF quite a bit (i love it).
Either gun you choose go with HPA instead of Co2 ... you'll get better accuracy, and the RT can ONLY run on HPA (if your on a budget go to the AIR SYSTEMS forum and you can buy one used here from a good person)... presets are the cheapest and as long as their putting out 700 (or 750?) you'll be just fine.
As for improvements you'll probably see a much more consistent ROF and because of the more compact design it will probably be easier to keep it in place for a much closer shot. Plus its VERY quiet compared to a lot of markers. No external moving pieces to get dirty or jam is nice too ..... plus its field strippable with no tools (if you for some reason need to remove the body/frame its 1 single allen wrench and 1 screw)

what is the operating pressure of the Rt Pro? i see most preset tanks operating at 800 psi or so. would i need a regulator to lower the pressure?Comment
-
No,
The preset tank will be fine ...I think it runs at 700 (correct me if I'm wrong) plus the AIR valve automatically has a built in regulator.
You just want a High Pressure preset (if you go with a preset) ...
I currently have a 68/3000 Preset 800 on my valve now...and it works great.
The benefit to adjustable tanks is on an RT (retro, etc) you can fine tune the trigger.

I double checked the price of the Level 10. I was mistaken on the location, but correct on the price. Here's the link if you're in need.

Also, I think the RT Pro is an excellent idea. By the time you add the Level 10 and Intelliframe to the TKO package, you're close enough to the price of the RT Pro to just go for it! And the RT valve is the icing on the cake!Lvl X TKO Automag PF/HL, Intelliframe, a Simmons 30mm Red Dot and a J&J 12" Ceramic barrel.
