seems to me after watching a trauma head video with Farside in it, their mags were a touch louder. then theres a support man with a minimag, and it was definately louder. so im curious, other than a new barrel, any ways to quite down the operation a little? doesnt make much difference to me, i play midfield and i could care less about loudness. lets em know im still there. thanks

I think you hit the nail on the head with "apart from changing barrels"
Because the mags are so unlike many markers which have many moving parts ( blat-blat-blat-blat-blat ) it is my perception that pretty much all of the noise is air related, so porting and muzzle breaks are the only way to go.
I'd be happy to be wrong about that of course. I wonder if there is any trigger return related sound that would be reduced with an electronic?

The most noise I've really noticed from a mag is with those guys who use stainless barrels. It makes a really distinctive ping, ping, ping, noise when fired. All the other mags, with a good ported barrel, sound like a mouse fart as long as your not behind them. In my experience anyway.Comment

Alabama grows some strange things, trust me.
I have four ferrets and, believe me, there is something gassy there.Comment

This is good to know.
The next time my neighbors complain that I was shooting in the back yard too late the night before I can inform them that they must be mistaken, and what they probably heard was a gaggle of infantile rodents returning home late from the pub.

If you search around enough, you might find the post where someone made a "bolt bumper" that they put inside their gun. Basically they shaved down a rubber washer and stuck it in front of the bolt to keep it from clanging off the body.
Personally, I don't think mags are all that loud, but whatever makes you happy. :)
As for the idea of a silencer, they are illegal, as far as the ATF is concerned, (No one has been able to make a paintball silencer that they didn't deem able to silence a firearm as well. Apparently, a pillow is illegal too because it can silence a firearm :) )
But as long as no ATF agents are around, you could probably find plans for a silencer online somewhere. I wouldn't use one in a real game, but if you need it quieter for target practice in your neighborhood, it might work.
