    Pledge and masks?

I saw a couple of the guys at the local speedball field spraying their masks with Pledge furniture polish when they were gearing up. I haven't heard about this before. Good or bad idea, and what are the benefits?

    Thanks,
    Charles

Don't spray anything on it that's not specifically for paintball goggles. You don't want the chance of some unknown solvent degrading the lens and having the possibility of it breaking.

Get shot in the lens? Spray it off w/ clean water or Plexus/Goggle Cleaner.

Want to clean them? Run them under warm water, or a quick dousing in a tub of soapy water. (I use Dawn to get any grease off.)

Well hold on a sec...was it on the whole mask including lens, or just the actual MASK parts?

Pledge is a trick that a lot of dirtbikers use. It helps keep mud/dust from sticking to your lense.

They were applying it to just the lens.

I just use standard sunglass cleaner and the nifty silk style rag they give you with it... it cleans everything up very nicely and doesnt scratch the lens up like paper towels.

Just get the big aerosol bottle of Plexus. I've had it about a year, and there's no danger of running out. Granrted, I don't play as often as I would like, but you really only need a tiny bit of it, once or twice a day.
As a side note, what is the point of taking apart your lens? I always hear, "Oh, x or y mask's lens is a pain to take apart, etc.", but I've never taken any of my lenses apart. Is it to get paint out of it? Because I've never gotten paint INSIDE it. Sorry if this sounds dumb, but could someone please explain this.

You take them apart to get the paint out from in between the lens frame and the lens. If you get paint or other things in there and they just are left there, theydegrade the lens...ever seen what paintball paint does to a car paint job when left on? Also, that pledge thing is dumb, thats gotta do damage to yer lens. Ive had mine broken in by a frozen ball and I wont risk it again for anything.

Oh, ok. That makes a lot of sense. Thankfully, I've never had that problem.
