    on/off, or lvl 10?

I wanted to know if this problem is caused being caused by my on/off, or my lvl 10 bolt. I was fine tunning my lvl 10 bolt on my x-valve a little more, just because of lack of anything better to do and i noticed a leak. the i noticed the leak right after i put a 2nd shim in. but the leak only occures when i pull and hold the trigger back. it cycles fine, and doesn't leak unless i hold the trigger back. but it's also kind of a weird leak in that it's just about a shots worth of air, then stops. now i want to say that it's an on/off issue, because no air should be reaching the chamber to leak in the 1st place, i took the valve apart, and all the orings on the on/off looked fine (the valve is less than a month old, and has only about 700 shots threw it, not even been played in a game yet so i would hope they're still fine) however, because it happened when i was messing w/ the bolt, i want to say that's what caused it, because that's the only thingi changed....any ideas? i'm out of air now, so i can't take the shim out of the bolt and see if that does the trick. i took everything apart, and oiled it, it worked for the next gas up, so i thought i fixed it, but the leak is back, so i didn't fix it.

    -minimag w/ x-valve
-lvl 10 set up is the #1 carrier(1 band, no dots) w/ 2 shims, longest main spring.
    -intelliframe
-68/3000 crossfire preset screw in, 1200 psi remaining when i was doing the tuning of my bolt

It's most likely not an On/Off problem. The on/off is "open when the gun is gassed up allowing the air into the dump chamber. The only time the the On/Off is closed is when the trigger is pulled. As long as the trigger is held back air cannot get to the dump chamber. So if it is leaking and you do not have the trigger held back it is most likely a level 10 prob.if you hold the trigger back and it leaks then it's the on/off.

that's the thing, it only leaks when i do hold the trigger back...it just started to leak when i was messing around w/ the bolt which is why i don't know what caused it, but it also only leaks a small amount of air.

well you said yourself when you put in the other shim the leak started? if so, take it out, see if that stops the leak. if it does stop the leak, you just determined your problem.

When you fire a level 10 valve and hold the trigger, there is still residual pressure within the chamber. This pressure will try to hold the bolt forward. Its only the pressure of the spring that forces it back. The higher pressure of the level 10 chamber means that the bolt may be back far enough for the sear to catch, but may not be fully seated so that the vent hole is fully behind the carrier o-ring. By removing this shim, you will move the position of the carrier o-ring forward to cover up the vent hole when the bolt is at rest.

I usually check my shim placement using a dowl to hold the bolt in place while I pull the trigger. Once the trigger is held, I gently allow the bolt to move forward and monitor where the venting occurs. This gives me an idea of how close to the edge I am on my shim setting. I want to vent as early as possible but I don't want leaking while at rest or while starting to pull the trigger.
Except for the Automag in front, its usually the man behind the equipment that counts.
