    Old Minimag + LX Issues

Ok, I'm starting to think there must be something different with old minimag valves.

First off, I've had my minimag for about 2 years now, and I bought it used off someone in Virginia who had it for who knows how many years before that. It's SN is like 12XXX or around there. Not ancient, but certainly not new.

In any case, I have NEVER been able to use a velocity tourney lock on my gun, the reg nut simply doesn't stick out far enough for the lock to catch any threads. I never had a problem hitting my target velocity, though, so it wasn't an issue for me.

Now I installed my LX, and I'm forced to use the smallest spring, and the reg nut is so far in its almost inside the reg. But the LX works fine at about ~285 FPS.

However, this weekend I went to the NE AO meet, and since its indoor we decided on a 260 FPS limit. LX leaked like a mother, and I was getting nasty shootdown. I had to pack the mag in for the day.

I tried replacing the spring pack, to no avail. I also tried swapping out for a newer reg piston, that too did nothing. My reg nut just goes in farther than I've seen on other mags.

My first solution is to use a small washer inside the reg nut as a spacer against the spring pack. That would solve the reg nut being in so far, but with the gun not working well under 260 FPS now I don't see how that will help that.

I know Phil had an issue with an old MiniMag and LX, I was wondering if anyone out there knew the reason for this problem and if there were any viable solutions out there.

Note: Anyone who tells me to trade my minimag valve in for an X-valve is likely to be slapped upside the head. I want to fix this one, not buy a new one.

Maybe you should trade in your....

    uh, nevermind...

Replace the reg valve pin & spring.

When it leaked, where did it come from?

Reg pin and spring are pretty much brand new.

The leak was coming from the bolt area, so down the barrel.
