how do you tell if a plastic nubbin is bad? i always hear "check your nubbin" but what are we looking for on the plastic ones?

I don't think I've heard of a plastic one going bad. But I would hazard a guess and say-

Check and see if it's chipped or worn in any way. (The part that extends into the barrel.) That's where the damage would occur, and that's where its function would be impaired if it were damaged.

also check to see if its still one piece. where the oring is near the breech in the barrel, it could break there
