    Problems at the chrono

I have an RT Pro with a level 10 (carrier has 2 grooves and I use 2 shims with the cut spring). The problem is that my first couple of shots at the chrono are always high like 290 - 296 fps (field limit is 280) and then things calm down to mid 270's usually but sometimes they are all over the place. I am using HPA with a preset reg @ 800 psi along with a freak system. Do you guys have any ideas?

first, make sure you are chronoing the RT properly:

If that doesnt do it, you may have a leaky reg seal. This will cause the infamous "first shot hot" problem.

Kevin, thanks for the quick reply. I followed the procedure as outlined today at the field. I will check the the seal you mentioned but I haven't noticed/heard any leaks

You won't hear any leaks if the reg seal is leaking. It leaks high pressure air into the front chamber not out of the gun. This will cause your first shot to be hot.
Except for the Automag in front, its usually the man behind the equipment that counts.

I'm having the same problem with my new RT Pro along with very inconsistant FPS reading on the chrono. (Yes, I'm holding the trigger back to simulate rapid fire) How you do you know if the reg seal is bad? What do I look for? Have people had the reg seal bad right from the factory?

Does the break in time have anything to do with this? I have been waiting patiently thinking maybe this is the probem but after 4+ cases, I'm begining to wonder if it is something else.

          Other suggestions?

A symptom of a bad reg seal is when you fire a continuous (not necessarily fast) string of shots across the chrono and all velocity recordings are consistent. Then you let the gun sit for a moment or two and fire a single shot. If that shot is noticably higher in velocity than the continuous shooting velocity, then you probably have a regulator seal leak. Change the associated o-rings and/or clean the regulator assembly.

A leaking reg seat will also cause the trigger to be heavier due to the higher pressure in the front valve chamber.
