    CPS and BPS

What is CPS. I hear the term thrown around at my feild and have no idea what it means. Someone on my team also says that CPS is lower in closed bolt guns. Why is this?

CPS = Cycles per second. Basically how fast a marker can complete the cycle that it would normall go through to fire a paintball. Does not take into account the feeding of a paintball, nor if there is any shootdown.

why can a closed bolt marker cycle than an openbolt? I don't understand. I understand what CPS is but don't understand the difference in Cps between an openlot and a closed bolt.

CPS is slower on closed bolt markers because the cycle takes longer to finish since the bolt has more distance to travel and the bolt speed usually isnt as high.

          Bolt travel?

How is a closed bolt's travel longer? An open bolt goes from the back position to the front, fires and then comes back. A closed bolt fires comes back and then goes forward. Basically both bolts have to travel the same distance to chamber a ball and fire therefore I don't think that it is the distace the bolt has to travel. I really can't see what would lower the CPS a marker is capable for a closed bolt as opposed to an open bolt.

However there is a difference which could affect BPS. An open bolt design would have more time to feed properly than a closed bolt because the breech is open during the delay for the command to fire.
