is the spring on this assembly supposed to be able to come out of the valve? mine is stuck and it won't come out unless I pull hard and it will just stretch the screw. Does it matter if it can come out or not?

Only if you want to change it with a new.
In my Mag68 a small piece of an o-ring was stuck on that spring. I had terrible shootdown, velocity problems and the bad was that the spring was bend because of that piece... i suppose. I change it same time with the seal and everything was fine again.
Whenever you unscrew the regulator change the seal.

It should come out although it may be a bit of a pull. It should be checked once in a while as it will collect any dirt or contaminants that may be flowing into your valve.
Except for the Automag in front, its usually the man behind the equipment that counts.

You will find your answer here:

I pulled mine out by using a pick. I started from the bottom up. It came out after awhile. The problem is when I put it back in. The spring collapsed. Anyway, I tried my best to make it look like it was before and put it back in. My chrono readings vary about +/- 20 fps. Is that normal or should I get another valve spring?

jctam, i think the big difference in the chrono is not by the spring. It is from the regulator seat if you did not change it after you take apart the regulator.
Look at the thread about regulator seat new vs old.
