    Leak Problem

    I have a 68 4500 Pure Energy fiber wrap.
About two months ago i went upstate to a new place to play, and I had my tank filled. As I was in the car going home I noticed that the tank was leaking out of the fill nipple. It is a slow leak, and takes it about an hour to drop the tank 1000psi. Does anybody know what is happening?

An o-ring seal is leaking in the fill nipple. You can remove the fill nipple and change the o-ring if it causes you problems.

DO NOTput oil in it to make a better seal. The oil can explode under pressure in the tank when the tank air heats while being filled.

I have had numerous tank leaks with PE tanks. I even sent a tank back for repair. It came back with new internals and still leaked. I ended up fixing it myself.
Except for the Automag in front, its usually the man behind the equipment that counts.

take it out and look? lol. theres a small valve pin type in there, and they vary on types. just take it off, clean it, then put it back together, that might even fix it as dirt might of got into the nipple.

one of my teammates had that same problem at out last tourny, except that when he filled his tank the check-valve in the fill nipple wouldn't close. All we did was bleed his tank down all the way (this is important for obvious reasons) unscrew the fill nipple and clean the o-ring on the check valve. Then we put a tiny tiny tiny dab or oil on it, rubbed the o-ring until it was lubed, and wiped off any excess oil. You really want to get off any excess oil that you put on there, because you don't want it in your tank. Put a little thread sealent on the threads and screwed it back in. Worked like a champ.

i would use a teflon paste way before i used tape. Cuz tape can come off and get sucked into your tank, and if it gets sucked into the reg bad things happen.

BE SURE THE TANK IS EMPTY BEFORE YOU DIASSEMBLE!!!!

I cannot stress this enough! Even though you are only messing with a nipple, the back-check ball can/willcome shooting out! Please, be sure the tank is empty befroe you begin messing with it!

do not use teflon tape, it can get into the tank and be forced out the regulator and f* things up hardcore. teflon paste would work i suppose, but i would suggest loctite as the best solution, there is a reason theyre loctited on there in the first place
