    Very disappointed

Well i am very disappointed in my minimag this weekend, i played a couple of games with it and i was breaking all kinds of balls with it,and i wasn't chopping and it was new paint, i probably broke about 100 balls with it in 600 shots i took with small paint in a medium barrel and they keep breaking, my velocity was at 270 fps. i also noticed alot of kick back form it lately and i don't like that, i played some games with a shocker and a cocker, and i think that if my mag doesn't perform next time i play with it i am putting it aside and takeing up a cocker or shocker.

What do you guys think i can do to get my mag more accurate, less kick, and to stop breaking paint.

well, are you breaking or chopping? if you are chopping, you will see paint in the powefeed as well as the barrel and bolt. you should work on your trigger finger.

      not chopping

i wasn't chopping, i was shooting proball's that were breaking in my lapco big shot, i used that cuz they werew even worse in my eliminator which usually shoots them sweet, i have a good trigger finger, i have worked on that enough and it isn't the finger, in all the balls i broke i chopped one.

Was the Proball yellow by any chance? Anyways, it sounds like a paint and/or paint to barrel match problem.

If the paint is breaking, try another paint. Chances are it was low quality and your gun just didn't like it. The thing to do whenever you're chopping is to try various paints in the same day with the same barrel or one that fits the paint properly and see if you're breaking all with each brand of paint. If you are, you have a mechanical problem that needs to be fixed. More than likely it's just a paint issue and you need to shoot different paint.

The paint barrel match is always important. It might be because there's something wrong with the barrel. Check the barrel for anything in it that would break a ball in the barrel. Most of a chance it's the paint.

check your barrel and see if there's a nubbin. A friend of mine <caugh> Major Ho <caugh> broke paint all day long at a tournament with a Mag because his nubbin was broken and it was double feeding.

Try a all american barrel 12 inch or boomstick all so check your nubbin should be up in the barrel thickness of a match book use med paint with either of the two barrels,I just bought a mag my self use to play 10 years ago I bought an AA barrel for it broke paint like well wasn't happy the nubbins are different now or my new barrel was I drilled a 1/8 deep and 1/8 slot forward to move the nubbin forward in to the barrel.Ive broke 1 ball out of two cases of paint my nubbin was to high to.

this really sounds like it might be a nubbin problem. lol. about a month ago, i was playin w/ some friends and a buddy of mine was having the same problem w/ his retromag. he couldnt even make it through one game. . . or make one elimination b/c like every 3 or 4th ball broke in the barrel. he was getting pretty frustrated about it, and handed the gun over to me ('carl, YOU talked me into getting this gun, now WHATS WRONG W/ IT?" - - one of those kinda things. . ) well, i took the barrel off, and looked inside. he had accidentally put the nubbin in backwards - - effectivly creating a nice point for each ball to impale itself on while traveling down the barrel. we both had a good laugh about it, it wasnt that big of a deal- - he had put the nubbin on before the first game, and either just wasnt paying attention, or he didnt know exactly how it was supposed to go in.

Anyway, the moral of the story is, check the nubbin, - - and make sure you have it in right. - easy mistake to make. As far as the kick your feeling- - could be your reg seat going bad, causing too much pressure in the gun. Result? velocity fluxuations and an overall "harder" kick and noise to some shots.

If thats all good, what kind of barrel are you using? an aluminum barrel will be much lighter than a stainless steel of the same legnth. the result is that the gun may seem a little less stable, a little harder to keep on target, and you might notice more of a kick. Additionally, this will kind of make your accuracy seem a little weird. a lighter front end is more succeptiable to jumping around (b/c its lighter) and, if you arent used to it, may make the gun seem less accurate. Also, read tom's tech tip on barrels. that will answer any other questions you might have on that whole thing.

small, fresh paint should not break in a medium bore barrel. (also, its not gonna shoot as accurate out of either. . . check info on the freak system about matching your paint to barrel.) there's somthing else wrong. In Summary, most likely nubbin. maybe need to replace a reg seat. accuracy is from a poor fit of paint to barrel. also maight have somthing to do w/ how you shoot- - how well you hold the barrel on target-- - steel will be eaiser to hold dead on that aluminum.

when set up right, my mags have almost no kick whatsoever, have a super light trigger pull (lol. ask LoadSM5 and Ball Buster) and are also realllllly dang accurate. ( check w/ load on that one, too. )

hope this helps. if your still having problems let me know, and ill be glad to help.

I agree... check the nubbin. My field uses Proball and I've used my J&J 2 piece and Lapco Bigshot and I rarely broke a ball. If I broke a ball it was due to short stroking my Benchy... since then I purchased an itelliframe, so I hope to brake balls less frenquently now. On average I broke 10 - 20 balls a case and it was mostly due to my error. Good luck and don't put your Mag to the side... stick with it and let us know what happens.

one other nubbin problem to check for that no one else has mentioned is to check for a broken nubbin. I'm not referring to one being broken in two but if it's a P nubbin then it could be bent too far into the barrel. it happened to me once and I couldn't figure it out for about two games. if it's a V nubbin then check and make sure that you have then breach end outside the barrel rather then bent inside (bad seen, trust me)
as to the kick I could be the reg seat, or it could be that after playing with a shocker it just feels like a lot of kick.

hope you get it fixed man, good luck.
