C02 on an Automag

I always wondered if i needed to put nitrogen or c02 on an Automag

it depends...

I've been using co2 on my mag for about...4 months and have run into tons of problems...from horrible shoot-down so the ball would lob 2 feet to not even being able to shoot under 300fps at the chrono. If you want to run co2 I suggest you buy a palmer stabilizer, a remote(wtih or with out a bulit in x-chamber). But if you have the money and can fill n2 at your field... go with it. These are just my opions remeber, cause some people here use co2 with no problems at all.

Sure, your automag Classic will run fine on C02. You just have to remember a few things.

Warmer temps are best. We are almost to November now, I don't know where your at, but in Minnesota here, it will start to get nippy. 55 or 60 degrees is about the threshold of what you can play with c02. Remember it will shoot fine for a while, but as the tank drops in temp, the psi goes down, and your gun will make funny noises when it starves for pressure. Blowback guns like tippmans and spyders go full auto, your mag will cough and maybe chop a ball :), or spit a couple out.

Regualtor. Mags have a great internal reg, the AIR valve. With c02 however, you really shot look at a good secondary reg. My experinace is with Palmer Stabalizers, and they are very good regs. Stabalizers are fully adjustable and rebuildable, and you should be able to get your hands on a used one for abou $70. I would also suggest that you avoid expansion chambers, because they really don't work any better than a gas thru grip or something like that. Basically, an expansion chamber just gives a little more voulme for a buffer when you have a 10 or 15 shot burst--You still shootdown, just not as bad.

Regs make for an expensive setup. If you can't have air, ie if no one will fill it, then yea, your stuck. Regs work though, and after you get used to it, your mag will work fine, man. Don't get frustrated, just keep tinkering when things get buggy. The automag valve ran for 10 years on C02, and it worked fine.

you woudl also have to see what different scenarios youw ill be palyign in. do you shoot very fast? thsi will suck in liquid co2. are you in a hot climate or cold. co2 will turn into a gas better when its hot thens tay a liquid when its cold? do you think its better to spend alot of money on a co2 tolerant setup? or just buy a cheap nitro tank for 70+ check www.paintballgear.net i used co2 on my mag 1/2 a year before i decided i was too fast ont he trigger for co2 to keep up. i live in houston. also using co2 will damage o-rings and will make them brittle becaus eof hte material there made out of they get brittle and hard and no more flexble and are easy to break. this is most of the time why you o-ring on your co2 breaks because it is enlarged and will break because is not flexible.

I run may mag on C02

OK Run it on c02, I get shoot down all the time at least 3 times a day. ill be playing and all of a sudden c02 will should out all ends like crazy. It freezes up, wastes c02 and disable playing with it. spend the money for nitro, you wont regret it. My nitro tank is on the way and I cant wait.

Now that I foolishly proofread my post after I replyied, I can see that it might sound like I'm almost encourageing C02. I'm not.

C02 is basically obsolete. Air is better in just about every way compared to C02. Air might bark a little more comming out of the gun, and, shots per ounce, air systems weight more, but on the upside, they are far more concistant, are basically uneffected by temp, and are easier on the internals of your gun.

However, some people don't have the luxuray of compressed air, mainly because they don't have a place that fills it, and they don't have a couple extra grand for a compressor. In that case, C02 is better than nothing, right...? :)

If you have the choice, it's a no brainer. Air is far better.

well, there's always my ideas...

ive run Co2 on my mag since December. Never had problems. Never had shoot down, OCCASIONALY a cloud might come out, but the velocity always stays the same. i run a 20 ounce on gun through a palmer stabilizer. now i run a remote into the Stab, just cause i love remotes. i have even LESS cloud shots than before. so maybe 3 a day. velocty is within 5 fps all the time. SOMTIMES ill spike whole 7 fps, but with compressed, ive seen more than that. theres a secret to co2. if you ever figure it out, you dont need anything more. sure, nitro would be the way to go. dont go cheap, 80$ for a 47 ci, thats a waste. lots of cash to fill and shoot as much as i do with a 20 ounce. but if you get a 68, thats worth it, or a 88. then the only bad thing is cost, and finding fills. compressed is the way to go, but co2 isnt as bad as everyone makes it out to be. just be nice to it.

Co2 should work fine on an automag when used properly. The first thing I would do, is I would go ahead and change my reg seat.
Are you running antisyphon on a remote, this will cause it to suck liquid Co2. You should consider getting at least one of these thing
antisyphon tank (not with remote)
remote
expansion chamber
palmer stabalizer.
That should help to keep liquid out of the gun.
Another thing to watch for, it pointing the gun at the ground, in a mannor such that the top of the Co2 tank, is higher than the ASA. This will allow liquid Co2 to pour into your gun.

A very bad idea..

Just to let everyone know... Mags were designed to run off of c02 (Watch the video). But I wouldn't recommend it at all just because it will freeze the heck out of your gun.... just use Air or Nitro they are way better and more efficient
