i'd have to say a detent. theres no worry about them breaking, or having to adjust them. doesn't really matter though, you can't use both on the same gun : )

Not disagreeing, but I can't say that I've ever had a nubbin break on me, even the rusted ones on my 10 year old crownpoint work fine!

get the plastic ones. haven't heard many people complain about those.

I personaly like the nubbins, I never had a problem with the wire ones but I switched to the plastic ones and like them abit more, you just drop them in and go, no bending required. As for ball detent's there are good ones and crappy ones, most work fine, I personaly dont like the look of a bolt sticking out the side of my gun. I dont think you can realy compare the two though, because you cant just switch between the two on the same gun.

I prefer plastic nubbins also. I've had 'cocker detents wear out and cause double-feeding. Fun fun fun. T

He spring behind the ball bearing can get weak after a while and in most of them, they're not servicable so if water or something gets in there it can rust the spring up and wear out the spring quicker.
