Level 10: Dollar bill vid soft - how? (prob with Hellfire)

OK guys, just got my Emag back from AGD. It had a cracked powertube that needed to be welded up. To make things easier I converted it back to level7 before the RMA. Before it went in I was using 2 shims, middle spring, carrier #2. It chopped occasionally - and honestly I didn't track the number like I should have.

OK, the current deal (now that it is back) is: 2 shims, LONGEST spring, and #2 carrier. It is shooting fine -exactly on at 290fps and is pretty darn consistent. The problem is that it doesn't chop 2-3 bounce paint, which is good - but frankly with the longest spring I'd expect that. My issue is with 0-1 bounce paint. I've got some Hellfire (fairly new and in good shape) I've been testing with and have broken at least one ball per 25 or so.

This got me thinking - how was the Xmag in the "buck stops here" setup? Mine WILL NOT stop on a dollar - and I'm not sure if I should expect it to. It should stop on hellfire and it isn't. I've heard of guys getting it so soft that it wouldn't chop paint that would break when dropped from 6 inches - so what's the secret? The only variable I can think of would be input pressure - I'm currently running 775psi.

Other the the issue with the Hellfire the LX is running great on the longest spring and was actually quite easy to setup - I'd thought it would be problematic based on other's issues, but mine has no leaking or stick at all. The funny thing is that I'm now seeing posts where it appears that the middle spring is actually the best - but I'm wondering with the issue (hellfire) on the longest if things won't just get rougher moving back down in length.

    Thanks for any help.

By doing that, would that mean that I would have to tune my Level10 nearly every day?

Havoc - cool, I'll be ditching the shims if I can. The 2.0 carrier is the best - feels almost like it's not there - but doesn't leak. The 2.5 is to big. 1.5 to sticky...

The proper carrier fit is such that you can hold the bolt at the top of the powertube and let go of the bolt and it should be able to fall all the way to the bumper under the force of its own weight.

With no resistance at all?? Or should it slowly slide down?

This describes mine - so it must be the shims (2) I'm using. I put them in because the quickstart instructions said so - but am going to try to run without them.
