Micro E-Mag loses power

I just bought a used PTP Micro E-Mag. I began charging the battery in the car on the way home. I noticed that if I moved the battery, sometimes the charge process would stop, the indicator light would turn off and then the battery would start charging again. I kept charging the battery and after an hour if finished. The problem is, the battery seems to do the same thing when its on the gun. Specifically, if I set the gun to fire 6 shot burst at 9 bps and pull the trigger, the marker will occasionaly fire the 6 shots and then lose power resetting the marker to fire single shot. The software version is 1.37. Any ideas? All your help is appreciated.

First of all, it sounds like you're making the wire connection at the charger come loose each time you move it. Make sure the wire is plugged ALL the way into the charger unit. If it comes out just slightly, it will turn off the charger and then once it makes contact it'll start the charge process again.

As for the intermittent power issue, take off the left grip panel and you'll see the PCB board. Down at the bottom of the board in the center just above the LED display is a screw. Tighten that as much as possible. If it feels loose, that's mostly likely your problem. That screw provides a ground for the board and if the ground is bad, then it won't let the board turn on.

I removed the grip panel and tightened the screw(It was a bit loose). I replaced the panel and gassed the marker and I still get the same behavior.

I'd like to expand on the symptoms a bit as well. It seems like the marker shakes the battery loose. I say this because it will fire appropiately for a bit, then turn itself off as if the battery were removed. If I push the battery up, the marker will power itself. If I put my hand under the battery apply pressure, the marker behaves correctly. Could there be a loose wire inside the battery case? I am off to the field to try this baby out (even without the electronics its still a 'Mag). I can post close up pics or a short movie demo'ing the symptom to my website if that will help. There is an o-ring in my Emag battery pack between the battery itself and the bottom of the housing. It does not seal anything, it is just there to lift the battery a bit. It came like that from the factory. Do you have that oring in yours?

You could also try to see if the battery contactors are bent down. Another thing is if the battery screw is not tight the battery pack is loose. You really can finger tighten it. I use a hex wrench to tighten it up a litte so the battery pack doesn't wiggle.

Thanks for the suggestions. I took some pictures to show the battery and the place where it connects to the marker. Let me know if I need different angles or if I'm looking in the wrong place.

I tried tightening the screw that holds the battery in place with a hex wrench. It was loose but using the wrench didn't help. The marker still seems to just lose power.

Any more ideas?

Blennidae - I just took the battery pack apart, and yes there is an oring in the botton (kinda looks like a tank oring).

OK, maybe try what Blazingace said, your contacts might be bent down a bit, not making good contact.

The battery seems to be held in the housing very securely. It doesn't move around at all. I just tried tightening everything down and tried again, still the same problem.

It might be your charger i think, since i had almost the same problem you are saying and sent my gun to ptp several times till I figured out it was the charger and not the battery.

56k - Thanks for the reply. I'm in Orlando too. Do you think you could meet me and let me try your battery? That way I could eliminate my charger from the equation.

Should I contact PTP or AGD for help with this problem? I think its AGD as the problem is electronic, but thought I might ask first.

Give Jon a call at AGD. They may have you send it in or have a few more tricks up their sleeve.

(First thing to do though is charge the battery over night and then take a volt meter to it. See what the reading is. Run a search and see what the correct output should be.)

I think it should be much easier to send it to ptp since it is closer and they will have it back to you within 3 days or so if you tell them that you need it very urgently and they even might fix it for free since when i had this problem i sent it to them 3 times and they tried to fix it for free i only had to pay the shipping on my part.

But I still think it's much easier to send your full gun and charger to ptp since you live in flordia and flagerbeach is not that far opposed to AGD which is in ILL and will take a while getting shipped there and back (im talking from experience since my gun came back 2 days after i sent it to them with new parts for free) just give them a call:
