CO2 ruined my first day with new 'Mag

I recently got a used AutoMag to replace the Tippmann 98 that I sold after my knee surgery. Saturday was my first day to play since my surger over a year ago, and I was excited to be using my 'Mag for the first time. I only had CO2 tanks, since that's what I used with my 98, and I thought I'd try it, since I heard that it'd be fine. I had my marker set up verticle bottle, and made sure not to fire too fast, and that I kept it upright, even walking out to the field. Still, it froze solid within my first 5 shots. Am I doing something wrong?

You used it in the Vertical Adapter correct?

It is a normal CO2 tank? Not a anti siphon? If it is anti siphon it will be straight up liquid!

It was a normal tank (not anti-syphon). How do I clean the reg and seat assembly?

You could also go with a Expansion chamber and / or remote. Both would help keep Co2 out of the marker. Also was the weather like?

Degas the gun. Take the valve out. Where the two halves of the vavle screw together take that apart. You are now holding the Reg. assy. in one hand and the ON/OFF and Power tube Assemblies in the the other. In the front of the reg. Assy. is a thick rubber washer. It should lightly snap in place in the reg. Take it out and clean it carefully. Oil it lightly and snap i back in place. It will only fit in one way. It shouldn't fall out when you put it in.

Now take the ON/OFF assy. and gently pull in out. This is the part that is slid into the front half of the valve. There should be a little diagram on the bottom of the valve. Don't take it apart. Just put some oil in it. Couple drops works well. Reassemble the valve. There are diagrams on the bottom of the valve.

When I was running CO2 on my Minimag before I got a Retro and HPA I used an Expansion chamber and a Remote coil to keep CO2 out of the valve. Even at high rates of fire I wouldn't get CO2 in the gun.

was your mag BRAND new, or used-new?

I've found that co2 works VERY well in BRAND new mags, but only alright in the used valves... maybe some o-ring somewhere gets worn in too much?

Anyway, as far as co2 is concerned, I think my setup is one of the best. Get an anti-syphen tank and a palmer stabilizer. The stabilizer basically makes it so liquid co2 is impossible to get to the valve. Unfortunately they cost just about as much as small nitrogen tanks, so there is a trade off there. I just went with the Stab because I already had co2 tanks and didn't want them to go to waste if I switched to nitrogen... that and Nitrogen is a 30 mile drive, where co2 is only a 3 mile drive.
Hey Zero, how much did that Chipley cost ya?

i have a settup similar to yours. I had a problem with the sear. It wouldnt catch the bolt. Also change all the an off valve o rings. I did all this and i havnt got 1 drop of liquid co2 in my gun with verticle bottle even a 40 degrees outside

                hmm, got siphon confused???

siphon tanks will feed liquid only, i dont really see the use for these, now

anti-siphon tanks get rid of the liquid, if you are using co2 its best to get one of these

it was a 75 degree day, with low humidity. The 'Mag is new to me, but is a '99 model, and it's in great shape. I had heard that running it vert with CO2 would be fine. Anyway, I'm about to bite the bullet and buy nitro, even though I have about 20 CO2 tanks from my M98 days.

you will be better off with n2. if you don't all ready buy an automag repair kit and just replace all your o-rings so that when you use it with your new nitro it will be like a brand new marker. hopefully i won't have the same problem with my minimag when i buy it in about a month, i will just have enough for the marker but it will be a brand new one, i just don't trust used markers.
