Hello all! My minimag is choking.

Hello everyone Im new to the site! Heres a quick background on my gun! I have a minimag that is chromed out with an expansion chamber, check it valve, 12inch dye ss barrel, 12volt revolution, and a 68ci 3000psi ACI Bulldog 2 HPA (preset 850 psi I believe). I just got my HPA last week and used it on the gun for my first time (first time experience with HPA) so the gun ran great and i always filled her up when she read 1000psi. So I get home and decide to clean her up and tear the valve apart (unscrewed her from where it used to read "minimag" and i was able to see the spring loaded pin) That was my first time tearing her down like that so i wiped off all the old oil and put some new oil back on all the visible O-rings that i saw and put her back. Oiled the bolt and so on. So i put her back together and decide to test her out(dry fire). I had 1000psi left in the tank and whenever I would try to do a quick 5 shot burst she would get one good shot and the rest would sound like she was choking (half cock) or had a lack of air getting in the gun. I cranked up the velocity adjuster and it was the same result. Is there a regulator that I should adjust or needs to be adjusted to run with my HPA system? was taking apart the valve a bad idea?do i need atleast 2000psi for it to run properly? any input would be greatly appreciated!

first take the expansion chamber off. that is probably cutting down your air flow there. second, try to keep the tank filled above 1000psi, they usually tend to choke out around there and below

when you took the valve aprt, did you replace the reg seat? most of the time, you cant reuse those. also make sure you have your on/off assembled correctly.

my HPA tank works fine down to about 700 PSI, I doubt the pressure in your HPA tank in the culprit.

thanks you guys ill that all out.(the gun is faacing left with the barrel pointed left) With the on and off assembly i installed that plastic piece with the big circle part facing left and the skinny plastic rod (which connects to it) going into the on/off.

I think you are talking about the regulator, not the on/off. the on/off is the circular part that is in the bottom of the valve near the middle.

whats the serial number? and did you remove the little circular steel thing with a rod through it and take out a brass looking disc? if so, whats the disk look like? if it has "cuts" across one side of it, they need to be facing down when you re-assemble it. if it looks the same on both sides then i'm stumped for now :-)

the only oil a mag needs is a drop or two in each of the holes in the reg that say "oil", or a couple drops into the fititng that attaches to the valve. it's not true that mags love oil. oil attracts dirt and grit that can get on an o-ring and cause leaks.

            Florida peeps...step up!!

Unless there's an obstruction in the X-Chamber you're not going to have any trouble running N2 through it!

I've seen it done and I've done it myself (velocities were within 2+/-, the gun shot fine!).

Although Mags do cut out around 800 psi.

A mag will fire fine with an expansion chamber. It just adds another restriction into the line that interfers with flow rates at high rates of fire. At high rates of fire you could experience shoot down. Plus it takes up air space and reduces the usable amount of air available per tank.
Except for the Automag in front, its usually the man behind the equipment that counts.
