    And Yet, Another Powdercoating Question...!

Alright, for those of you who do the powdercoating, what part of my Minimag body do I NOT want to get coated? (other than the inside) I've heard that if the part of the body that sits on the rail is coated, then the gun won't align properly--is this true? My Mag is currently painted (home job) and it sits just fine on the rail...so what makes it different with the powdercoating?

    Thanks!

Powdercoating adds material to the body. It can throw the tolerances off. I saw the ULE Rail and if you look at it normally, you wouldn't see these two little grooves they milled in. They're THAT small. Mag tolerances are very exacting. Powdercoating CAN be done, you just have to be careful on what you get done. That's all.

So would it be better for me to tape off the section that will sit against the rail so that it doesn't get powdercoated?

      Also, can powdercoating be removed?

          Powder coating

Whjen you take your body to get powdercoatet tell them you need it put on thin. I had mine done I think it's 2 mil. thick. Make sure you have a screw in the body. If they put it on to thick I've seen where the reg. and barrels dont fit anymore.

Okay, so I need a thin powdercoating job--cool. Thanks for the info. Now, what's the best way to stip my Mag's stock body? Can I use my Dremel with the fine sanding wheel? How do I know how much to sand?

Usea polishing tool on your Dremel. You might be able to find someone where you live that does polishing. Ask your buddy where he had his crank cover for his Harley done. Some gunsmiths have buffing wheels for their grinders. Or you yourself can puchase a buffin wheel.

Hehehe, I "stripped" off most of the paint, as well as everything else on the body... It definitely looks ghetto, but all I need to do is buff it out and it should be G2G (good to go) ready for the powdercoating--hopefully. I'll let you know how it turns out.
