    XValve velocity dropoff

    Hey guys,

Got a strange problem with my Mag, wondering if anyone else has had it. I have a ULE/XValve/Intelliframed Mag and use a 12V Revi and SP Teardrop 12". The last two I included cause you never know if it has an effect. I was tuning the Level 10 and also had to adjust the ball detent because I am having the same issue as many with the ball not seating fully into the breach so when I shoot the level 10 kicks in and the ball doesn't shoot, it even sometimes catches a little but has enough push to roll down the barrel a little. That sucked because the next ball hit it and I had paint all in the breach and hopper. I believe all this is resolved and balls feed fully into the breach. BUT...

When I switched up to the Intelliframe I noticed every now and then a ball with fire with minimal velocity. It will make a sound similar to the Lvl 10 venting but still make the ball roll out or worse, stick midway in the barrel. It almost seems like the valve is not recharging fully which would be strange considering it's the XValve and I know I got the velocity set right. And I know my airline setup is correct too. And my carrier is not too snug or too many shims are being used. Has anyone had this problem of velocity dropoffs with the XValve?

OK, based on the previous post, it sounds like your problems began when you upgraded or otherwise switched to the IntelliFrame from another frame. Does this sound correct? If so, what was the previous frame? Can you go back to the original frame for troubleshooting purposes?

The reason I ask is because this sounds like a classic case of adjusted trigger rod causing issues. An adjusted trigger rod messes up the timing of the Bolt Release and the On/Off Closure. Sometimes it's possible to not open the On/Off fully, cause slower recharge and starving of the gun.

Hit me back with that info and we'll see what we can do. Otherwise, we'll see if there is a different direction in which we can go.

Another option is your LX setup. Please include that info in your reply.

      setup

The trigger rod, as far as I can tell, is set up correctly. I have just a tiny distance between the trigger and rod when it's left standing. I switched from the stock minimag single trigger plastic trigger frame to the Intelliframe, no mods done at all to any part of the sear or the Intelliframe. The Lvl 10 uses 2 shims and the 0.5 carrier because I just recently had the bolt leak issue with the 1.0 carrier, it had broken in so it fits well now. The issue existed before the switch too. And I sold the frame but I'm convinced it is not the frame itself that is causing the problem.

Could using excessive oil in the valve cause such a problem? I didn't go crazy, but I am somewhat liberal in placing oil because I know the XValve and Lvl 10 need it. The other issue I was thinking is maybe the on/off pin not releasing and allowing air in but I'd think the pressure pushing it would be too much for the metal/rubber friction to stop it. Any ideas?

I wouldn't think too much oil would be an issue. The excess should blow on thru as long as you followed procedure. I usually put 6 drops in, as per the X-Mag manual.

Seems to be an LX issue then. I would think you're getting bolt stick from the .5 carrier. What spring are you using and at what velocity are you trying to fire?

Try the 1.0, drop a few drops of oil on the o-ring, replace it, and put ~ 150 dry fires on it. That should break it in.
