Help me power a Rev off E-Mag

I need some help. I would like to run my X-B Rev off my E-Mag's enormous battery. I have read Rob's Hack,

but I can't make much out of it. Could somebody explain the steps to me in plain, has-a-bit-of-experince-with-a-soldering-iron, english. I don't get how to tap the battery. I don't see where the reg and capacitors go. Is there an easier way to connect the Rev than a 9v clip on the side?

A parts list would help, and a step-by-step (with pix ) would be even better.

Thanks for any help in advance,
    -H

taping into the 18V battery anywhere there are big wires will work. just strip back the insulation and solder a new set of wires on **** make sure the battery is disconnected*** you dont need a meltdown.

then take your revy apart and find the contacts that power it. there is no reg required. the 12v revy runs on 18 volts, the reg is on the revy board. you will need a multi-meter to do this, so if you dont have one, get one.

that is about it, just run it parallel with the e-mag batt and life will be good.

no, don't tap into any other wires.

Put an eye connector on the positive lead and connect it in the gripframe above the battery. then connect an eye connector to the bottom screw on the board (that's your ground)

then you have to isolate the main positive and negative tabs on your revvy board connector. Create a loop of exposed wire that you can slip over the tabs and soldier it on.

Or you can send me your revvy and I can do it fer ya.

Ok, this is a start. 2 eye connectors, one black and one red.

What about the reg and caps? Do I need them with an X-board?

nope, the revy has a reg on it..........I think you are thinking of the warp feed 12V mod.

I didn't know. So, I need a way to hook the X-B Rev to the wires from the E-Mag battery.........

Could the headphone jack from the Intelli instructions work for that? Would it be able to carry the current?

ya, that would work fine.........the current is less than 100 mA

Cool. Radio Shack is right near my job and should have plenty of time on Wed to pick up the parts and warm up the iron.

just remember check twice before powering it up........at 18V it would melt wires red hot in seconds.

Well, tried to wire the thing up today. No luck. I have one wire from the battery screw, another from the board screw going to a headphone jack.

On the Rev I have wire crossing both pos and neg fins. Then the wires from the other end of the headphone jack attached to the crossing wires.

With the batt on and the E-Mag showing blinking ready, all I get is a short. When I plug in the jacks, the power cuts out. Pull the jacks and it powers back up. The Rev never spins.

                    Any ideas?

ya, you wired a direct short. you dont want to wire both neg and both pos terminals on the revy.

I will send ya an email with a picture that should explain.

I never did get this working. I've been meaning to just buy rechargables, but never got around to that either.

                              worked like a charm

Hey I just wired my emag to the revi. Works great. Havent played yet and my emag battery just died. I havent charged it in a while. Anyways I wired the emag just like the instructions say and connected the wires to a 9 volt battery connector. Then I connected the Revi + and - to another 9 volt snap but in reverse polarity. connected the 2 and how full powered Revi off the emag battery. It spins a hole lot faster too? Anyways I cant wait to see how well it works in the field.
