    LCD Controller

Tom this would make more sense to you, but I'm sure I'm not the only EE on this forum.

    Anyhow.
During the Zap Master we spoke about a small counter project for the I-frame.
You mentioned that finding a controller for the LCD would be a pain. At the time, my software guy thought there would be no issue operating a small 3 or 4 digit LCD display with a microcontroller. I guess he never understood when I said the pulses must be modulated. He was used to writing code for large Hitachi driven LCD displays. Not the stand alone watch ones that require the glue circuitry to modulate the input.
Is this the reason why you went with the LED display for the E-Mag???

I'm at work and even during lunch I start thinking about my G-job related circuits. :-D

here at school we used the Motorolla HC11 Family microcontroller to control a 4x20 LCD display with no problems at all. shouldnt be too hard to run a 1x4 - 1x8 LCD off of the same thing. just alittle soldering and some asembler code should do the trick. sounds like that would be a great addition to the Intelliframe.

I too studied the HC-11. Demand to learn more.

If the screen has a controller attached to it, any microcontroller can operate it with ease.
Without the controller (bare LCD) is a different story. LCD does not like DC voltages. The segments need to be modulated and multiplexed.

AGD, where we are so good we can do it with only ONE tube!

instead of an lcd, what about smal seven segment displays?

            Hey, watch it.

Seven segments. Which was kind of what my original post was asking to AGD. Is that the reason why they went to LED display.

it doesn't look like there's enough room in the grip for extra controllers and boards in the emag anyway. that's a side affect of being a hybrid gun.....
